Hello
I transfer 100Mb from rapidshare to my new VPS using rapidleech script, the speed is about: 100-130kb/s (max 130kb), but I have transfer same 100Mb from rapidshare to my shared hosting (BH), the speed alway from 200kb -350kb . why ??? I think VPS must be faster than shared hosting ??
also the VPS load flash game is slow as shared hosting, maybe slower .

I dont know why, my site is under development, can some one please tell me why ??

thanks

Well I just grabbed a 35mb file from my my own site hosted on my VPS, never thought to check it... anyhow 1000KB/s which is about the max of my cable connection. Note that is the correct size b, its in bytes not bits. B=bytes b=bits

I'd suggest the issue is most likely rapidshare.

I had the exact same problem for a while. I put off opening a ticket with support because I knew they'd probably say everything was fine and it was a network issue on my end, because it was a weird problem. I let this go on for months because it wasn't a huge deal.

I finally opened the ticket and was persistent with support letting them know it was an issue. I had multiple people test from different parts of the world, and everybody confirmed the slow download speeds.

Tech ended up saying they tried something after a huge ticket of back and forth. Whatever they did it worked, because I noticed a huge difference in speed. Not only with file downloads, but with just browsing the sites I host as well. It was really effecting the everyday browsing speed. cPanel used to take 15-20 seconds to load, and now loads normal. I wasn't sure what to expect with load times, as this was my first VPS and I know you don't get as much CPU power and RAM. I wish I had contacted them sooner, because it was like a night and day difference.

Just make sure it is your VPS and not the rapid share. Try downloading through http from your browser off your site.

My download from my VPS is terrible. Can range anywhere from 100kb/s to 120kb/s. A blog hosted on my site can take upwards of 30 seconds to load, minimal pictures, text only. Strange. I submitted a ticket about it a while back and they said they changed some QoS rules but it didn't do anything. A 1 meg log file can take over a minute to download with WinSCP. Can be a bit annoying when you are trying to debug an issue.

Keep after it with the tickets! Things like this need to be analyzed in real time by the techs.

I hope you aren't using WinSCP to judge transfer speeds!

If you are... don't! :)

Heh! I'm the one that introduced JagPC, et al, to WinSCP so believe me on this. Security comes at a cost!

Here, check this out: http://winscp.net/eng/docs/faq_slow

Are you having the same 'problem' with (gak!) FTP & HTTP transfers?

Vin, thanks for that - I was wondering why my WinSCP transfers where not up to speed. Now I know. Again thanks.

Vin, thanks for that - I was wondering why my WinSCP transfers where not up to speed. Now I know. Again thanks. My pleasure...

Sometimes WinSCP is really s-l-o-w, especially if you're transferring 1000s of tiny files!

I just made a backup of my site[s] - 648MB tarred (BZ2) - and I've been downloading it for 1hr 10min. LoL!

Actually, it's moving at full tilt - 150KiB/s (1.5/896 ADSL) - but...
