    Invision Software, opinions anyone?

    Hey everyone,

Curious if anyone has used the Invision software for their own sites, and if so what do you think of their software suite? More specifically, all the other options such as IP.Nexus, IP.Content, etc. I'm working on a gaming related site, and thought about using the software. I've been checking it out the last few days, the admin area looks like a mad house of options, menus, etc.

I like the idea of the IP.Blog, and also the detail in profiles, such as having friends, etc. Really good stuff. Also they have a ton of modifications already done, some of which I've already bookmarked if I do use it.

    Let me know.

I've been mod on a site that uses Invision for years. It's not bad overall.Lots of bells and whistles. The only downside is the time it takes for each upgrade. That and it seems each upgrade breaks all the customization and you have start over.

Its very customizable, there is no doubt about it. From my point of view, I think it is a little cluttered on the admin side, lots of stuff in strange places you can spend hours trying to find. But its like anything, devote teh time to it and you'll become acustom to its functionality.

it is true that the upgrade process is someething of a bear, but that was back when I used it years ago, it ight have improved from then to now.

Mods are always a good thing, you can expand, make things better, add more functionality to a site that is tailored more toward what you are doing etc.

Yeah the admin panel is definitely clustered. I've only messed within the panel thus far just a bit, but from what I seen things you know are there, are simply hidden and you have to dig around to find the option.

From what I can tell from their forums, with new upgrades customizations and mods still break and need constant updates to keep up as well. Still, I think you can't pass up the features it includes.

Going to be taking a template not designed for it, and converting it into a workable skin. Should be fun.

I'm admin for a pretty decent sized forum using IP.Board.

I would say the software is excellent, the support is pretty good, especially of late with anti-spam and protection.

Yes, the admin control panel is hard to navigate (too much functionality), but simply typing in a keyword to the 'Live Search' field always directs me to where I want to go.

Modifications - pretty easy, save them as XML before upgrading, and then ask them to do the upgrade for you! Works well. Always test on a testing skin.

    Hello!

I actually really checked into Invision a couple years back. I have to say that I really like their software. The only downside to it, VERY EXPENSIVE.

They want to charge you $150.00 for the main license, $75.00 for nexus, $65.00 for gallery, $50.00 for blog, $50.00 for downloads and $50.0 for content, Then it is another $105.00 every 6 months if you want support or updates for all of them.

I ended up going with VBulletin, which I am really happy with using. I have very little issues with it, and the mods that are available are top notch and most are free.

I used SMF for a few years, but, most standard features of VBulletin, you had to add as a mod, and there was always conflicts between mods, and doing updates was a horrible process.

    Hey Bell thorpe,
That is a pretty cool forum you admin. Very neat and clean. And well established!!! Member traffic on a newer forum I have is slow, aghhh!
