Question E-Mail, Span, Worms, etc. Advice sought.

    Hello all,

I use my domain email as my primary email address and thus it does go out alot on usenet, registration at websites, etc. I have decent rules setup on my Outlook so that most spam gets filtered to the delete box.

I have NAV running and its always up to date, I use ZoneAlarm Pro, and my 1.5/384 DSL is run through a router with NAT. Anyways, I'm not having a problem with virus or worms per se in that I'm getting infected, but this latest Microsoft email with the worm attached is driving me NUTS!! I'm getting like 50 - 100 of them a day. Norton is catching all of them, but since I have it set up to quarantine, etc... it pops up for approval on every occurance, as I want it to do - but with this option and all the worms Im getting - It's taking me forever to go through my emails!!

So my question is, what kind of tools, strategies, etc. are some of you using to make the situation a little less troublesome? Is there anything? I have alot of rules that filter the most common spam like anything with viagra in the subject, body of message, etc and works for most except the HTML email of course.

    Just looking for input, thanks!

The quick and dirty approach would be to abandon that email account and bounce the messages with a forwarder.

There's been some similar discussion on this in the SoBig worm threads of a couple weeks ago. Try searching the forums on SoBig.

Forgot to say, if there's a consistent and unique header to the problem emails, you could set up a filter via cpanel that deletes them as they arrive on the server. Be careful with that method though. It's VERY easy to set up filters incorrectly and have them filter out much more than you would like.
