    Download/Upload speed

last 2 week I have a very low speed on my server hosted on JPC,

I test it with different hosting places (tera-byte, cifnet and something also) with good speed
and average speed for trialgames.com around 10-22 Kb/s for download file and upload on server about 2-3 K/s!

for all my domains on other hosters I got a speed about 200 Kb/s! for upload and download!

Performance tested with wget download tool via command line
    with files about 3-5Mb size.

Can anyone test it? Does JPC limit speed for account?

    PS: my server - Penguin.

JPC was having problems with one of their bandwidth providers that was causing major slowdowns for a lot of people over the past couple weeks. Those issues seem to have been resolved now, though. I just took a look at your site and it seems to be fast from where I ma. I'm on a 2 MBps cable line right now and it was about the same speed as I'd expect for any site I visit from here.

Same here. I did a backup of my site yesterday and it downloaded at 27KB/s, which is as fast as my metered DSL will allow - 71.5MB archive file - Neutron server.

I have to agree with TrialGames, the server tests I ran from multiple machines returned almost the same results. This is still going on as of 10/9/2003. Average page loading speeds are in the range of 10-15K Bytes/sec.

Submit a support ticket. Jag has solved most of the problems
related to this issue but there still seem to be some isolated
    incidences.

    Connie,

I have tried, but to no avail. They said they were fowarding it to the network administrator for review, but I have heard nothing.

The reason I am concerned is we started with Jag not too long ago, to test their services. My company will require dedicated servers to implement a central database for our client app., and online web applications. Speed is critical for us.

Honestly I do like this company, they have been very responsive for the short time we have been with them, I'm really hoping that this speed issue can be resolved and it is not just a limitation of their network infrastruture.

Would you explain the testing procedure[s] please? I would like to see if I can duplicate your results...

Server to server transfers exceed 3-4mb as they should on 100mpb links. Outbound speeds appear normal as well, reaching 1mpbs and above depending on client side ISP. Pulling into the network (as in requesting a page) would appear limited at times for some users. Im not sure if thats an issue with a hop just outside yipes or not.

Starting today (and going until its done) we are begining our ip changes. While we change the ips through the network we will be creating tighter vlan's to lower any potential overhead on the routers .... which only show a 9% usage at peak hours.

That will elliminate internal network issues and make segmenting problems into certain vlans much much easier.

Within 2 weeks or so we also hope to switch to the new network we've been working on that we announced earlier. Neither of these changes will be anything end users should be concerned about as far as having negative reasctions. We are just changing/adding providers, failover links, and also additional hardware (wasnt mentioned before .. more layer3 devices, firewalls, IDS) . The change now will also make us more flexible in the future to add/change providers here in the data center as we need or see fit. No, the servers arent going anywhere and we arent moving a thing. The only move we will ever need to do would be to move a machine from one cabinet to the next , for whatever reason. Providers can be changed and we will not have to change for that. Thanks to this new ip block and the foresight we had last year when moving here to Houston.... the rest is history.

Aside from the ip changes coming, which we will coordinate with you on, there should be no cause for alarm. After these changes we will have about as tough and streamlined a network as one can make.

I would like to hear from those that are seeing this 10-15k abnormality though. Especially if its still occuring after the changes.

No problem, Chief! I just went to TrailGames' site and downloaded the first file I came to. I did a screenshot and I'll try to attach it to this post.

In case it doesn't attach, the file I downloaded was called 'TrialGames-Jumpix.exe' - it's 3272KB in size - it downloaded at 81.1KB/sec on my DS3 connection using Mozilla.

EDIT: The screenshot didn't attach, so that's not going to work. I went ahead and downloaded this game again using Internet Explorer - 68.1KB/sec...

Exptech, if you would like me to run any tests for you, give me a URL. I'll probably be here for another 12 hours or so...

    Heh! QoS problem. Good find!

Well, I guess the routers wisely judged that I was more deserving of bandwidth than the others. After all, I think, act, and have the personality of a bot most of the time.

I'll conduct the above 'experiment' again, when I go to work tomorrow...
