Which FTP program do you use?

I've been using WS-FTP (LE) for a while now. They've got a new version and their terms are a lot more restrictive for getting the free limited edition version of the program. So, I'd like to try something new.

What FTP programs are you using? Anything particular about them you like?

Probably not the information your looking for. I used cute by Global scape for years.
Cute has a free version or used to but it will install spyware on your computer.
I recently tried WS-FTP because Cute had become so buggie and their support sucks
even for paid users. I think your looking for something free. There are a lot of
good free programs, but Cute and WS-FTP are the only ones I'm familiar with but not
    the free versions.

If you want a good free shell program WinScap32 is very good. WinScap32 is a shell
program. (I think thats the right terminology).

It is a little slower in initial connection but I use it daily for secure downloads.
Sorry I don't have a link to their website but you can search the forums or wait for
Vin to reply. He can provide a link to WinScap32.

    Happy Hunting.....

I'm not necessarily looking for something free, although I wouldn't complain if I found a nice freeware program.

Having a something that is secure would be nice. Every so often when I connect with FTP I wonder if anyone is capturing my un-encrypted login and password that's being sent along the net.

    Link to WinSCP

    Here's a link to WinSCP:
    http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/

I still use an old copy of ws-ftp, but am increasingly moving to WinSCP and other shell type programs. WinSCP is free (BTW, is this what you were referring to Connie?).

Eh? I know I replied to this already but my post vanished?

Anyway, for the second time I use CuteFTP Pro which is a vast improvement over CuteFTP. It's better than anything else I've tried although I've not tried everything of course.

I use WS_FTP Pro at the house --- used it for years, blah, blah, blah. What can I say? It's the best...

At work, I simply use Internet Explorer. Does anybody realize that IE has a FTP client built into it? Anyone else ever use it?

The only problem with IE is it adds (wherever you go) to the 'Network Neighborhood.' This isn't really too cool on an idea on a computer at work, you know? But as long as you remember to delete it from the 'hood', it's okay in a pinch

I'm not really interested in any other FTP client. I used them all, at one time, years ago, but --- WS_FTP Pro and IE --- that's it for me!

Thanks for the advice everyone, I appreciate it.

Last night I was playing around with FileZilla (http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/) and that seems pretty nice. In addition to regular FTP Filezilla can also connect through SFTP using SSH2.

I'll definately check out and WinSCP, WS-FTP Pro and CuteFTP Pro too.

Question: If I want to use programs that use the secure shell, I need to have tech support turn that on for my domain, right?

I use Gftp. You'll have to upgrade your OS to try it though.

The new version I saw was for WS-FTP LE. I'm not sure if the there is a new version of the PRO edition.
