I opened a ticket because email on the nitrogen server has been timing out. I have two separate domains hosted on this server and both are producing the same error.
A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: 'mail.XXXXXXX.com', Server: 'mail.XXXXXXX.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19
I have various other domains hosted on different servers and they are functioning normal.
SOOO Suresh in support tells me to disable Norton 2002 or 2003 antivirus program. Or at least stop scanning incoming email.
Quote from Suresh's reply to the ticket
"This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
You have Norton AntiVirus 2003 or Norton AntiVirus 2002 installed.
You have Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email turned on in Norton AntiVirus.
This problem may also occur when you use McAfee software products.
WORKAROUND
To prevent this problem when you use Norton AntiVirus and Outlook or Outlook Express, turn off e-mail scanning in Norton AntiVirus:
Quit Outlook or Outlook Express.
Start Norton AntiVirus.
Click Options. If a menu appears when you click Options, click Norton AntiVirus. The Norton AntiVirus Options dialog box appears.
In the Internet section, click Email.
Click to clear the Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email check box.
Click OK.
Close Norton AntiVirus.
"
HOW SILLY IS THAT.![]()

First off I am using Norton 2004, which handles email scanning in a far better fashion then previous versions.
Secondly if it were the Antivirus program ALL of the email accounts from all of the different servers would be producing the same error. But they are not! ONLY those hosted on Nitrogen are timing out.
Personally I think it is irresponsible to of technical support to advise to disable or remove functionality from security applications. Such a suggestion could have detrimental effects not only to the users system but to Jags network as well. If the errors are only being noticed from one server and not the others then perhaps that server is having difficulty!
Maybe it is just me but I think that "Workaround" is just silly. Better to investigate the problem and possibly prevent an even larger problem then to suggest such a ridicules recommendation and create a lager problem.
Jag may want to look at the Nitrogen server. And I apologise for the rant.
And this post by Matt is why that advice from Suresh is silly
