    Thumbs up Firebird 0.7 -> Firefox 0.8

I don't know how many ppl are running Firebird 0.7 and/or have been waiting patiently for v0.8 to come out, but now I know what the holdup was. Firebird 0.8 is actually being released as Firefox 0.8.

It just came out about an hour ago, but the dern server is timing-out from all the traffic. Guess I'll give it a try to download it tomorrow (later today)...

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that 0.8 has finally been released.

My new home page - http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

EDIT: LoL! Never mind about waiting 'til tomorrow to download it. That's why I have GetRight. I forgot all about it. I'll just let GetRight 'do it's thing' all night...

EDIT II: Big w00t!!! GetRight connected while I was editing this message. Gotta love it!

Note to self: disable all Firebird extensions before attempting to install Firefox next time, and don't use Firebird's Pinball theme.

Well, that was relatively painless. I'll give you a complete report later...

For anyone who doesn't have it yet (and Vin in the future), you can avoid most slashdotting effects by going to the mirrors page:

Good stuff. Thanks to my time zone difference, I had it in the morning before US geeks woke up -- and swamped the main ftp server.

Yeah, I tried that too (I think). I was getting 404's and 500's all over the place. I guess more ppl use Firebird/Firefox than I thought.

Anyway, I had to get to bed shortly after I installed it this morning, so I didn't have a lot of time to play with it, but FireFox seemed fast as hell. Since my site is 'flashed', I had to download the Flash plugin almost immediately, and the new download setup blew me away. I think this version is going to be a major improvement, hence the new name

Me too! Oh, well, it's their ricebowl. I guess they can do what they want. At least the price is right.

Well, I have rediscovered 'full page' mode. It rocks with Firefox!!! Looks like I have a 22-inch monitor now, instead of a '17.' No kidding! I use a 22-inch NEC CRT ($700+ retail) at work, and this is just as nice...

I've tried this from time-to-time with other browsers, but 'full page' mode is always lacking in some respect or another; not so with Firefox.

I never could figure out the 'search window' feature next to the 'address window'. It kinda seemed stupid, but now I see the purpose and reason for it. It takes the place of things like 'Google Toolbar' when you are in 'full page' mode. Dittos for the 'tabbed windows' feature. It ALL makes sense now!

All you have to do is 'customize' the Firefox toolbar by adding a few things like the 'bookmarks' and 'new tabs' icons, and you're ready to fly. The 'windows button' on your keyboard actually becomes useful now too. It'll pop-up your 'startup menu' and all that non-sense, in case you need to navigate to another proggie. There is really no reason to clog your browser window with the rest of that garbage now. You can surf the web the way it was intended.

This is actually very exciting for me. It's created a paradigmatic change in the way I use the Internet. I feel like I've been set free. Very odd, indeed, after all these years. My hat goes off to Firefox!

If you're running Firefox, you might want to try 'full page' mode, even if you've unsuccessfully tried it before with other browsers. This Bud's for you. 'F11' toggles this feature off 'n' on...

Firefox is impressive... It's not as fast as opera and an excellent replacement for IE. The download file size is way smaller than mozilla too... Pretty cool...
Where do you wanna go today?

I didn't realize FireFox had a full screen option. Wow, that is nice! I guess I never played around with the menus enough to find it

As far as the search window, I use the "find on this page" option a lot. It's great to have it there on the toolbar.

Downloaded FireFox today. It is much faster than FireBird or
Opera on my PC. Don't understand the Full Screen Option.
Looks to me like you are just maximizing the screen. Anyway
looks like FireFox is a great browser. I doubt that it will replace
    IE for most users.

Firefox is great, and I loooooove tabbed browsing; however, it's not going to replace IE for me, at least not yet. I use ( http://www.avantbrowser.com/ ) which allows tabbed browsing in Explorer. It's pretty slick, although I'm sure it's much more bloated than Firefox.

I'd never use Avant Browser, seeing as its from a company thats full of a bunch of lying sobs. :P

Look at the top of their page, "The Fastest Web Browser on Earth!" That's about as far from the truth as it gets. IE has the slowest rendering engine of any mainstream browser out there. Something like Lynx is probably the fastest browser, and Opera is the fastest visual browser on earth.
