    Client feedback request

Its time for the usual updates we do each year in terms of quotas. This year though we want to do something different. We are contemplating the idea of going to just one plan for new accounts, one major but affordable plan. The idea would be something along the lines of our current v500 plan for the price of our v200. The $9.95 (v200) plan is without question our most popular plan.

Some points clients might bring up:

    1. Could anyone on any existing plan change to this new plan?

    YES

    2. Doesn't this limit or rip off existing v100 or low end accounts that may update in the future?

no, the next step up for them is the current $9.95 v200 plan, we arent increasing the price. The one hosting plan model would offer what they would get at v500 plan specs but with v200 plan rates.

    3. Doesn't this idea of one hosting plan for all really put those with v300 or higher plans in a bad spot.

No, quite the opposite. They can change to this new plan, which is lower in cost and higher in specs than any existing plan we have.

    4. How will this affect resellers?

It wont! This offer is pertaining specifically to our own shared clients. Our new reseller offerings , yet to be discussed, will offer better pricing over existing plans and will not diminish your ability to sell different packages. We realize that just beacuse we may want to limit our packages does not mean our resellers do. If we change this shared concept we will change it soon, but that will not stop any resellers, new or existing, from adding the v series plans.

I don't know how I really feel. I say if you are willing to do that. Then just lower the prices instead of making just one plan.

Hey my name is Brian. I am a reseller with my partner Dave, (dkadave) who is on this board too. I just want to stress a few points that relate to issues I have had to deal with and ones I will deal with if this happens. But first, let me thank you for all of your great support, uptime, and pricing. However, pricing is an issue. I do not want to offer one plan to my clients and future prospects. I fear that we won't get any more clients and we will piss off our current clients. We do fine with the plans now though. Why not just keep the curent plans and make them all cheaper? The cheaper they are, the more people will resell, I guarantee it. The plans are fine now, they are juiced with features. All in all, I think it should atleast stay the same, and possibly talk about lowering the prices.

    why that isnt viable >
The lowest plan now for us, v100 is $7.95 mo / $5.95 mo when paid annualy.

We are discussing talking here about something like the v500 at v200 prices. The reason is b/w and diskspace are not big expenses for us and our most popular plan now is the v200. We want to bring in more clients with existing infrastruture, not lower our monthly operating revenue to get new clients. Ie, if we tried to sell the v500 at $9.95 prices, then by the timne we get down to the v100 its like $1-2 and that isnt a business model we want to explore.

We want to keep our business model where it currently thrives, the ~ $10 range , and just make that option more attractive to everyone.

As for resellers, we've had several threads over recent months about resellers. Thats an area where we are affecting other peoples business more so than our immediate business. We have been planning lots of changes for the better for you guys. They just take more time to bring out since they are far more involved than us changing a quota, they invovle backend work to our system .

Thanks, I appreciate your update. I have complete and utter faith in you guys. You do a great job with support and everything all together. Your plans are very ethical and I understand. I really appreciate all of your support and especially one representative (Susy) who spends even what I consider extra time to help us. I will look forward to new things for resellers. Slowely but surely we are getting more clients and I hope to put out a huge marketing campaign for dkahost.com and our other website soon (vi01.com). Maybe a dedicated server in the future. Take care.

Have you been watching your logfiles for my accesses? I've been studying the hosting plans (and looking mournfully at the disk space limits) and trying to decide whether to increase the plan, or buy a 100MB block (or two)...

If you are gonna give v500 plans.... Cool! I think it's great!
That's like asking me if I want 5 Big Macs for the price of 1. Oh wait... that's how I got to be this size in the first place.

Will my space requirements expand to fill the new larger size Jag waistband?

Ok, that made no sense. But from what I've seen from my looking around to find a reliable host and good prices, your v500 at v200 pricing would be VERY attractive.

    Sign me up!

I guess this would take away the temptation to go after a $5 solution. Also, I could use my space for other things that I don't currently since I'm worried about ramping up the bandwidth too high.

    Yeeha!!!

Sounds good in concept to me. No problem here on the plan simplification. From past experience here, I'm guessing that Jaguar would honor the terms of plan you signed up with; that is, if you prefer that over the new plan.

I DO wonder how my server neighbors would be (ab)using all that new lebensraum. Since we've gone through similar quota updates before, I'm not too worried about that though; after all, there is an AUP/TOC in place.

Some questions for Jag on the actual implementation:

How do you see this affecting your existing server configurations, if at all? Are existing accounts likely to get moved around to new disks or servers as a result of new space requirements? Or just moved on an "as-needed" basis?

I'm guessing that the accounts that were originally assigned an IP would not be losing them in the upgrade process, but confirmation on that would be good to hear.
The trouble with our times is that the future is not what it used to be.
