    Ok, maybe I'm just dumb

I've wondered about this for a long time, but never asked because it's probably gonna make me look really stupid. But, I'm feeling bold tonight, so here goes:

I am dying to know, just what is the friggin' point to "domain parking?" I mean, is there something special about it that no one told me or what? You could register 10 different domains and point them all at the same IP via AletiaNIC (or whatever you use) and it's exactly the same thing. No need to open any support tickets or give it a fancy name ("parking"). You're still gonna be paying for each domain anyway. So, what's the difference? Seriously, why do we even have such a thing as domain parking? It's like having two ways to do one simple little thing (point multiple domains at your site) and it just seems kinda frivilous to me.

Can anyone answer this long-standing question for me?

That is essentially what a parked domain is. However, when JPC sets up a parked domain, they also add a handler to the Apache conf to direct requests from your domain to your website. If you have a dedicated IP this isn't absolutely necessary, but a lot of newer clients don't have dedicated IP's, so the method you describe won't work for them. HAving JPC set up the parking also gets your parked domain listed in their DNS servers, so you don't have to worry about updating IP's is your site gets moved or whatnot.

Parked domains are just forpointing two (or more) domains at one site. You can do it yourself (in some cases), but not everyone is technically savvy enough to know how to do that, so JPC offers to do all of the technical stuff for you.

Its in use here at jag. jaguarpc.com and jaguarpc.net are essentially parked to the same area.

Now with parking and some minor php you can also create your own redirecting based on names....all you want for free. That is one way to get around the limit of 5 free domain points (multi-hosted domains).

Ok, I get it now. It's a more convenient way of handling where domains are pointed if you don't know how to (or don't want to) mess around with the domain settings yourself.
