Question Google 'Sandboxing' - SEO - and all that buzz/barf crap...

Maybe I'm playing with myself here, but I have a feeling that some ppl might know what I'm talking about. So, I'll give it a try...

As some of you may know, my web site normally places nicely in Google. I'm listed #8 in Google PageRank for PHP-Nuke web sites. I have always figured this is because I think like a Google bot, i.e. Google bots and myself have the same IQ.

    Witness this:

    http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...oject+php-nuke

I don't know what you are seeing, but I've been hacking out a PHP-Nuke interface for the DMOZ Open Directory Project for a couple of weeks. By watching Google closely, out of 83,600 web sites, I have positioned myself second only to the founder of PHP-Nuke, which doesn't even know what ODP is. That's fair! He wrote the CMS software I'm using.

My only question is, "Will this become a case of Google 'Sandboxing'?

In my experience, only time will tell. As a matter of fact, I'm taking a chance even mentioning it here, Google bots being the way they are. They follow me from site-to-site.

Does anyone know about the 'Sandbox Theory'? Googlemeisters need not apply. I've already read all the conspiracy theories...

Any resemblance between these views and my own are non-deterministic. The existence of Vin DSL is questionable. The existence of views in the absence of anyone to hold them is problematic. The existence of the reader is left as an exercise in the second-order coefficient.

Yes, that's part of it, but it's just as likely to disappear from Google in a day or two, no matter what, no?

Look, Ron, here's the way it is...

I watch my site like a hawk. I know who's on it and what they are doing, most of the day. Google bots follow me. When they follow me to my site, I figure I got them. I log onto a page I want them to spider.

In this case, as soon as I see the Google bots trailing me to my site, I go over and sit on a URI. They go there, spider the page and add me to the SERP's.

I'm dumb, but I ain't stupid. All I gotta do is track them, and use them to my benefit.

My question is, do the robots know what I'm doing and do they 'sandbox' my tactics as a result? I have a feeling they do...

    Anybody have a clue?

Yeah, if you are using adsense, and you hyped it here before, then the google/mediapartners bot will follow you (and anyone visitng your site).

But only because it wants to check what keywords are now on the page so that it can place relevent ads for the next visitor.

More info about page names and so forth in my next post.

That still doesn't answer my question about 'sandboxing'...

BTW, in case you think I'm BS'ing about Google bots following me, I just took this snap on my site...
Over half the 'visitors' on my site - Google bots. This is typical...

I don't know what you mean by "Sandboxing". And like I said, virtually every visit to an adsense page will result in a visit by the Google-mediapartners bot. Plus Google is going to spend a lot of time indexing a large dynamic site.

Right now, MSNs new bot has been flailing away at my phpbb site, more than 1/3 of all traffic is to one MSN url. Since that site generates about 50,000 page views a month, counted by a javascript counter which isn't invoked by MSN, that means that MSN is looking at about 1,000 pages a day.

I say MSN is flailing because it is trying to post, to look at private messages, trying to edit posts, etc., etc. It doesn't understand phpbb2.

Re: watching your site like a hawk, It's a good thing to do. The day before yesterday, I got a 171k .gif hotlinked by a very popular website... gobbled up .5GB in a day and a half before I caught it. 2800 hits.

No problem, Ron. Supposition is allowed here, as always. However, I prefer to hear from someone that knows what I'm talking about...

By "sandboxing", do you mean the phenomenon by which a site can go from almost the top then drop out of the top 1000 over night?

Equally, by it's nature, it can start you off in the sub-1000 area then hike you up in a few weeks.
