Chivalry is like compliments - gets you everywhere until some guy smacks you in the face when what's his favours you!

Chivalry in America (aka being a gentleman) was beaten to death by the feminist movement.
Mr. gamer has a point here. Many times if a guy tries to do nice things for a woman such as hold the door or wait for them to sit first, we get yelled at for being a chauvinist pig.
How about a bit of "positive" discrimination?
When was the last time a lady held the door open for you?
Also - if that same door that you got shouted at for were to hit her in the face, what would have happened then? Court Case?
Choose the lesser of two evils - choose shivelry!

mattsiegman,
I've got to make sure I avoid " Location: Somewhere...". Fortunately I still see "Southern manners" here and chivalry, while occassionally sick, isn't completely dead... but I've never seen anyone get berated by a woman for being polite. Are you in California somewhere, the mecca of prescient social change?
While its never happened to me personally, my dad has had such experiences. I'm not sure where he lived at the time. I'm in Wichita, KS right now. While chivalry is not dead here, women seem to like the assholes more than the nice, chilvarous guys.
Ahhh, the societal contribution from and repercussions of MTV and BET. Never saw a gendered profanity or derogatory reference that they didn't like.Originally posted by mattsiegman

Are there any ladies in the house that would like to comment? Prefer naughty or nice?
At 60 I still open doors for women who are entering a public place and are a few steps behind me. 90% say thank you. If the place we are going into has double doors, often the woman I just opened the door for will open the next door for me.
Even with Womens Lib, I think most (not all) women appreciate and respond to male courtesy.
Haven't been on a date in a lot of years but if I were to go on a date I would open the car (Truck) door for the lady to get in.
I don't care where you live there will never be anything wrong with being polite. I don't consider this as "chivalry" I think it is a matter of good manners.
I guess because I'm old and dense I don't understand a lot of the post.
Anyway

By the way, I guess the topic of chivalry ties into where you are from in this way.
I'm from the US, state Missouri.
I didn't read all the post but have a hard time understanding about where you are from has turned into a thread about chivalry which seems to me what the thread has turned into.

Personally I have never had a woman yell at me for holding a door open, pulling back their chair before they sit down etc.Originally posted by mattsiegman

To me this thread has become ridiculous and I'm surprised Matt that you contributed other than locking the thread.

I agree. Some women do like assholes. That's why a woman who finally gets away form a man who abuses her will end up with another man that abuses her.Originally posted by mattsiegman

Don't sterio type. That does not mean that all women like Assholes. Those women are in a small minority.
Still not sure what this has to do with the original thread. I guess because Kansas was mentioned.
