    Continuous Thread

I did not want to hijack
    The thread that came before,
So I did start a new one
That no one would be sore.

    I wish to help define
    The meaning of a thread
    With this simplistic little rhyme
    That's forming in my head.

A thread is used to join
    And hold two together things.
    Sometimes those things are similar
    And other times...well, they're not.

A story may use many threads
    To hold the plot together
    And often times you'll find,
    The twistier the better.

    But certainly you will agree
You can't go one, two, then fifteen
And hope to have a clue,
As to what happened in between.

So if you have to take a break,
Then of the place make note.
That you can then begin again
    Exactly where you broke.

    But if you should falter
And not recall exactly what you read,
    Then carefully retrace your steps
To match the memory in your head.

    And don't despair a moment
If your interest starts to wane,
You can start a very different thread
    Or read the same again.

Finally...I do not mean to disrespect
Nor a single soul to slight.
But If this thread becomes entangled,
    twisted, hijacked, stolen, pimped, painted,
turned into a political debate about coffee imports,
or submitted to the Guinness people for most twisted thread.
    S'alright!

    Re: Continuous Thread

Very clever. I was getting a trifle disinterested until you brought up coffee imports. That got my heart pumping. Those Colombians are just monopolizing the industry and destroying our nascent caffeine import/export quotas. And don't get me started on sugar!

Just kidding... never lost interest or my way through the thread. Very clever indeed. I think your IQ really is above 100.

    Yep, no rhyme, no reason.

Like, what does the following have to do with the thread?

    Ricky Nelson song: Garden Party

    Was there some hidden meaning in the line;
"see you can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself"

    What did he REALLY mean?

I think it's more important to know whether or not the king Parrot Head was invited to Neil Young's Garden Party.

Yeah, those pesky Columbians and their agricultural imports to the U.S. Talk about a trade imbalance. Next thing you know, they will be petitioning our Congress for subsidies.

He was, but the infection in his toe prevented him from attending.

Never went to a Neil Young GP but did frolic in the grass to see the king Parrot Head. That just doesn't sound right. Let me rephrase... I've experienced many a night listening to Buffet. It's been a while though. That just doesn't sound right either. I better elaborate. It's been a while since I've seen Buffet.

I just can't win for losing here. I keep digging a deeper hole... wait a minute, that just doesn't sound right...

PS - only the second time I've seen the poking emoticon used in the perfect context... wait a minute, that just doesn't look right.

Oh yeah. Before I forget, I occasionally like poetry.

There once was a young man "Archilles"
Who personified all that was Greek.
His story is legend and recorded as poem,
But as limerick, is mere tongue-in-cheek.

    The limerick packs laughs anatomical
Into space that is quite economical.
But the good ones I've seen
    So seldom are clean
And the clean ones so seldom are comical.

There was a young bard from Japan
    Whose limericks never would scan.
    When asked why this was,
    He said 'It's because
I always try to get as many words in the last line as I possibly can.'

    Snagged from http://www.fact-index.com/l/li/limerick__poetry_.html
There once was a plumber from Lee

Oh wait... can't say that one....

There once was a man from Kent

oooops, no not that one either.....

    Nantucket is out, too.

    Ok, last try...

There once was a poster named Gamer
    Who posted lim'ricks quite lamer
    Than lim'ricks should be
    (The opinion of me)
Notwithstanding the meter is all screwed up but I wouldn't say that and be a flamer

After I stopped lmao, I decided to try again.

There once was a young man "Archilles"
Who gave all the Trojans the willies.
    And it wasn't the reason
    him being so fearsome
As was his repoire with the fillies.
