why not update to vBulletin 3?

I just noticed that Jag is still running vB 2.3.5. Why not upgrade to 3? Just curious. I did it a few weeks ago for a site that I work on. It wasn't painless, but at least they streamlined many things. The database used to be about 150 MB, but after converting it was cut in half. Weird?

They tried to upgrade a while back, but the theme didn't work. Jag would need to re-do the theme. I'm pretty familliar with the system, so I would be willing to help with the transfer. I would love it if they changed to vB 3. It's much better.

Be careful about upgrading to VB3. VB3 has totally different table formats...

I know someone that tried this and it turned into a total fiasco. The theme can be modified, but he said the VB2 db is totally incompatible with VB3. When he finally figured this out and restored the original db, all the links and quotes were toast. He also lost the entire knowledge base and it was huge!

Now that I think about it, isn't that what happened here - the quotes and links got jacked up?

I know the 'polls' are still screwy! When you vote on something, the results show up in a different thread...

It wouldn't have happened if they had restored the original unmodified database. There haven't been any widespread problems with upgrading to vB3 either. vB3 is da bomb.

I had to go back to the vb2 and backup db becuase i absolutely hate teh stock vb3 theme. The themes also are a totally different format than vb2, dumbest thing in the world. They should at least have made them compatible or convertable. At any rate, Im happy with vb2 and have many other projects ahead of weasting a week to redesign our forums. If someone does want to do it your welcome to have at it. I'll test that theme on a non-live account to verify it works before we use it here.

    me too! LOL
It actually wasn't that hard to change the theme again. I had to rebuild it afresh, but like the jag pages, the one I did was mainly a design wrapped around the discussion board. Just edit the header/footer files and was done.

As for the DB stucture being different. It seemed better cause it cut down the size of our DB.
