    The Howard Dean Scream

Howard Dean is saying that "The Scream" never happened... he was just trying to be heard over the noise of the crowd and his noise-cancelling mic made him stand out. Anybody buy this line? DF_Gamer/Jaded? Clio? Anyone

    My take:
Hey, like everyone, I saw the coverage of this a million times. The guy did scream. I didn't think there was anything wrong with him screaming. I thought he was trying to rally his loyal supporters, and save his campaign. Unfortunately for him, it played into the public/media perception of him, and that's why it was replayed endlessly. Just like the media used to endlessly play footage of Gerald Ford falling down, and of Dan Quayle mis-speaking, and of Bill Clinton eating cheeseburgers.

    Your take?

I suppose it all depends on what the meaning of 'scream' is...

Ron I watch the news daily. I mean morning noon night and late night.

I have never heard about "The Scream" untill your post which seems to me a little old at this point. Dean lost to Kerry many moons ago.

In my mind anything about Dean that is not relevant for today is old news.

The scream was a hot topic for about a week during the Democratic primaries at a point when Dean was the front runner raking in the most money. It was that scream that put him into the realm of irrelevancy and ruined his chance for the Presidency. It pretty much cemented the fact that his outbursts, while red meat for his most loyal followers, was not conducive to the swing voter which is what the general election is all about.

I guess Dean is important only inasmuch as he represents the Gore wing of the Democratic party and may come to life a bit more now that Begala and Carville are now on board as "consultants". Yikes, what a bunch of... ah, nevermind. They aren't worth the print anymore.

That's one of the things that bugs me about folks like Hannity. They keep playing that stupid piece over and over and over. The guy was excited. He was trying to keep a campaign alive. Heck, half the coaches of my son's teams do exactly the same thing everytime there's a game. I suspect that it's a little embarrassing for him. I do wish that people would let it go. Hannity and other hack me off when they play it. As Connie said, it's old news. And, it's not even entertaining. Indeed, I think it's sad.

Spath Thanks for the clearification. I possibly saw that but did not recognize it by the name "The Scream".

I don't think it was a big deal.

The volume was not the issue though, many politicians yell to be heard over the crowd. I think it was the look on his face and the almost maniacal look in his eyes that pushed it over the top. IMO.

I agree. The loud vocalization may have been a bit of a pep talk which is fine... but then he began to ramble too long, the blood rushed to his face, the final scream was uttered, and the subsequent confirmation in many people's minds that he appeared unstable finalized.

Now the proof of his "instability" has been his continued rantings on issues political vis-a-vis attacks on Bush. He may have reasonable policy positions (that I don't happen to agree with) but his delivery is too harsh. Sensitive voters and non-Koolaid-drinking partisans will not follow that type of leadership.
