    http://127.0.0.1:3561/clear.cgi?

I'm actually noticing it a lot, that IP anyway, so am a little concerned, will go do some searching, am thinking its me!

    K, was the firewall.

Anywho, can see the images now.
Erm, well, although the ads are nice and informative, they are banner/sky scraper ads.
Lots of people will probley love them, however for you have a small like 88 x 31
the reason being is I don't want it too appear that your paying for advertising, more then this is who I am hosted with and feel I can let you know discreatly!

I hope you guys get lots of business (but not so much you forget about us current customers), but there is nothing more annoying than a rapidly flashing, animated gif. I guess its my simple mind but I cannot focus on my reading when my peripheral vision continues to get stimulated. Hey, maybe that's the purpose of the animation!

    Spath,

That's why I am a big fan of Flash ads **IF** they are used correctly. From Netscape I could hit the STOP button (intended for loading web pages) to stop GIF loops, but not Flash. No biggie... right-click and deselect 'play'. Then Macromedia thought it would be a good idea to take away the right-click menu in the Flash player. GAH!!!!

So, when I build a Flash widget, I try to convince the client that it's a GOOD idea not only to leave the right-click menu (sometimes, not always), but if they MUST have continuous animation, to add a little stop/play button that stops most if not ALL animation. I lean towards a delayed animation a second or two after loading the entire page, then do one or two short animations. I don't mind 'soft' animations, like a small animated glow that only happens once every few seconds for example.

About the firewalls and proxies - I use a hosts file in addition to a firewall. The hosts file trips me up sometimes, especially on paid advertising sites that I *want* to use (referrer links for clearinghouse stuff, for example). Legit uses get sometimes blocked, which causes people to find more devious ways of tracking/redirecting.

lokki, I'm glad to hear you are considering the judisciously controlled use of flashing. I suspect most people that have surfed the web for more than an afternoon have tired of the novelty of forced, repeated animations.

Yeah, I have a huge hosts file to go along with the proxy and firewall too. Multiple layers are needed, IMO, to purge the waste and control, to some extent, that which emanates to and from my NIC. If there is content that I must read, I'll go edit the appropriate file or modify a filter to open the hole. A slight niusance but worth the effort to block as much as possible.

I think people would be surprised at how much information they yield when they browse. Fortunately, browsing software (Mozilla based) is getting more sophisticated at allowing the user to control more of the browsing experience. Hooray! despite their current shortcomings.

sorry Vin.. I have to disagree. I don't like the fact that it pops up a new full-screen window, nor the mystery navigation without at least an intro. Yes, some things come up easily, because you have to mouse over the hot spots to get to the text scroller, but it still looks like something you'd have to learn.

on the other hand, it is a cool site, just not what I had in mind about using Flash appropriately for advertising.

Jag, those ads look great. I would like a 88x31 button for my site that has the logo, that looks llike the first one, but with the words "proudly hosted by" or even just "hosted by" on it.
