    Subdomain Redirects

I have created a subdomain at test.domain.com and it properly forwards me to domain.com/test

Is there a way to force the site to stay listed as test.domain.com instead of showing the folder at the end.

I researched the forums back to 4/2001 and didnt see my question, so I apolegize if this is in a FAQ or a sticky.

    Thanks,
    Wayne

Did you let cPanel make the subdomain, or did you make the folder yourself, THEN tell cPanel to make it a subdomain?

If you let cPanel make the subdomain, it should stick...

    Example: http://pilot.lenon.com/

Also, review the first part of this thread and the following one specifically:

    Multihosting option

This is the way to enable multihosting if indeed that is what you want to do.

    Interesting!

Three fundamentally different ppl have read three completely different meanings into the original post. I think this is a 'first'...

I will have to check to see if having cpanel create the folder for me will resolve the issue.

    Will Post back.

    Yes ,

Vin DSL , the first post was the closest to my needs.

When you create the subdomain, don't set up redirection (you can remove it now and you'll get the desired operation). When you don't set up an address for redirection on a subdomain, your pages will be served from a folder in your public_html with the same name as the subdomain and the subdomain will remain in the URL.

Redirection allows you to set up a short URL to a longer, less personalized one. For example, if you resell for company X and they provide you with a "white label" website for their products. They might give you a URL like secure.companyx.com/resellers/123-45-67-890123/shop. You can then set up a forwarded subdomain with something like shop.domain.com that points at that site, identify's your business, and is easy for your customers to remember and type in. There are many other uses for redirection, but this should give you an idea of why its there.

Your problem is a common one--many people thing that once they set up a subdomain that they also have to redirect it to someplce, but you don't. Redirection is an option, but that isn't clear by the way it is implemented in CPanel.

    Hope this helps.
