    ftp/subdomain help

Hi all, not sure if this is the best board to post this in, but...

I am setting up a sub-domain, and I want people to be able to upload and download files into and out of it, but only it (and not my main site).

So how do I allow someone to ftp into only a certain directory?

I believe if you create an FTP account with the same name as the subdomain that would work.

An FTP account is only able to access the directory that matches its name. Thus the ftp user "foo" can only access /home/yourdomain/www/foo/. The user "bar" cannot access that directory as it is restricted to its own directory (/home/yourdomain/www/bar/).

Subdomains point to a directory within /home/yourdomain/www/subdomain/ So, if you have a subdomain of foo.yourdomain.com, just set up the FTP user "foo" which will be restricted to the same directory.

Thanks you very much, Alex, that is exactly what I was wanting to know.
