Any resemblance between these views and my own are non-deterministic. The existence of Vin DSL is questionable. The existence of views in the absence of anyone to hold them is problematic. The existence of the reader is left as an exercise in the second-order coefficient.
I have and like the results right now. I may not like them by the time it's launched.![]()

ZZZZzzzzzzz pretty much described my first reaction too. Nothing astounding. Similar clean and non-commercial looking interface. I initially thought that Microsoft's search worked from a more limited advanced feature set. Now I see Microsoft's offerings are actually pretty similar, just split up more in different sections.
So far search results I've gotten have been much like what I get from Google. Can't tell yet if one or the other provides more relevant results, but that in itself shows Microsoft is offering a serious alternative. As for killing Google, I don't see much to indicate that yet, unless it lies in Google's increasing commercialization of their search engine over time.
The trouble with our times is that the future is not what it used to be.

LoL! Supposedly, this is the search engine that has Google shaking in its' boots...
Sorry, but I don't see it!![]()

If I wasn't clear, I don't either, yet.

Beaucoup cash and lawyers will allow the acquisition of beaucoup technology, talent, and intellectual property. It's only a matter of time until the Borg strikes and this is following a typical pattern.
The Juggernaut sails the mighty ocean, skipping all of the small ports but pausing at the traditional staple ports on big continents because the payoff is huge. In fact most small islands are off in the distance barely creating a wake in the Juggernaut's path as it misses all new venues and excitement. Through time, success, and word of mouth, one of the smaller ports becomes popular and it grows in attention and size. The Juggernaut sees the expanding port but can't quite stop the current momentum to bother making a turn or adding a stop. Lacking the creativity or will to turn the boat, the Juggernaut plods ahead but looks askance at the passing port. Finally, the port becomes a major hub and the traffic, wake, and money become too big to ignore. The Juggernaut gets the command from Behemoth Cruise Line headquarters to stop at that new, exciting port or the captain and crew's heads will roll. The Juggernaut stops after crushing or drowning the smaller boats and buys out the docks. Everything back to normal.
I still say time will tell. Relevant results are what people want. Google results have not been relevant for some time. Yahoo is a little better. The searches I have done on M$S beta have been relevant.
My searches are for products. it seems to me like Google is trying to provide information pages only on the main seacrch page. If your a shopper then you have to use Froogle or image seacrch. The other option is AdWords if your not in the top 10 on the first page.

LoL! I can't really argue with the results, Connie!Originally Posted by clssam

But the question remains... how many of those 44,688 and 35,500 pages were relevant?Originally Posted by Vin DSL
Or haven't you finished checking through those yet?![]()

For words I track the searches are very relevant for a shopper. The number of pages does not impress me. If your not on the first 3 pages no one is going to find you anyway. In fact if your not on the first page very few will find you.
Keep in mind that the MS engine is still in Beta and has not been released.
MS is still using Yahoo for results on their main search page. Also with every new Beta release MS ask for user feedback.
Regardless of what anyone thinks of MS I think we can all agree that they have the money and the marketing know how to make this sucessful. I think they are commited to making MS Search successful.
My prediction. Within the next 12 months there will be 4 major SEs. Google, Yahoo, MSN, and AskJeeves.

This is already the case, in exactly that order, if the weblogs I have been seeing lately are any indication. Metasearch engines like Dogpile will also continue to do well I'm sure.Originally Posted by clssam

I think your right at least about Dogpile. I get some traffic daily from Dogpile. Dogpile has been around for a long time. They are mixing sponsered listings with their own SERPS rather than showing them at the top of the page or at the side. However, the paid or sponsered listings are clearly marked and the paid listings may or may not be higher than their listing. Hope that makes sense.Originally Posted by lookout

It'll be interesting to watch how Google and Microsoft compete against each other. With Google having Gmail and now Microsoft having the MSN Search Engine, it's like they're both jockying for a better position to make money from the Internet. I read a few rumours that Google is considing developing a Google Browser, based on the Mozilla browsers.Originally Posted by clssam
If the competition continues I think it'll be a good thing for all of us.
