    Question Free Forum Scripts

Well, I had only taken what i thought to be a short time off from my web developeing days as a young lad, and what iv come to realize in wake of my return is that most of the message board scripts charge fee's these days. Well here I am, a college kid who sure as heck doesn't plan on spending $200 on a forums script for a small website that I never intend to really grow. Iv tried searching google, and even these forum for suggestions on scripts I should concider. Anyone's suggestions would be great.

For a simple bulletin board, you can use www.phpbb.com. It is also available for install from your cpanel; I go direct to the source to maintain it myself.

    LoL!

I saw your nick and I thought you were 'BigDag' from Australia. I wondered why the hell 'he' was asking about forum software...

Anyway, phpBB is THE one 'you' want!

There is a "Lite" version available for free download and use, or you can pay for the full version which starts at 25 EUR.

If you like CGI, go with YaBB (www.yabbforum.com)
If you prefer PHP/Mysql, I'd choose simplemachines (www.simplemachines.org)

Hmm... simplemachines recommended twice here already, even though it still says "RC2".. Anyone care to elaborate what makes it "that good"?

Well, the reason I decided to go with simplemachines is that 1) it's very fast and 2) it has all the features you could ever ask for.

    How about Invision Board?
    The old v1.3 is free.
