    Privacy...important or not?

Have privacy laws gone too far in an attempt to protect individuals from identity theft? Do the new protections make it more difficult or easier for persons to commit identity theft?

Getting someone's identity is easy...I believe the new laws make it harder to track fraud though.

    Interesting question[s]...

Personally, I'm doing everything I can do to make myself known, but I don't exist. That is, me, VinDSL (or Vin DSL here [and elsewhere]), doesn't exist. That's the reason for the 'space'. Most ppl cannot figure that out. 'Spaces' freak out 'the typical human'. It freaks out the 'bots' too. 'Spaces' are the secret to anonymity on the web...

Do I care if me, myself, is revealed? No? There isn't a machine or a person in the world that can figure it out!

The problem, so called, is when ppl try to be themselves. That's when everything gets 'jacked up'.

I am any number of 'ppl'. I won't even bore you with all my manifestations on the web. You have no idea how many 'ppl' I actually am. At one time, years ago, I was several 'women', but that's kiddy stuff. For all I know, you are a real girl. Makes no difference...

So, to answer your question[s] directly, do I care? Hell, no!

If you can figure out who I am, better power to you! I don't know who I am, me, myself, and I! All three of us...

You know, I was just rereading this post...

This is the most revealing post I have left, in 25 years!

Can you figure out who I am? No, who gives a sh!t?

If anyone cares to take the challenge (which you won't) go for it. I dare you!

BTW, and I'm talking to 'Jag' specifically (should you decide to take the challenge), I maintain numerous 'Internet' chargecard accounts, for eBay and (ahem) mass webhost payments, et cetera, so don't even go there...

Using only the "regular" internet...I have a result. Should I pm it?

p.s. includes name, spouse, address, phone, +a few other details that indicate how I obtained the information.

Oh, children's names also...and university for one of them.

And the reference to quilts on Pauker's website review post makes more sense now.
Don't have time to do more.

    edit; added p.s.

Bah! All that stuff is public information. I thought we were talking about identity theft...

I suppose my point is, if you have several identities and someone steals 2 or 3 of them, what difference would it make?

I know a guy who's brother stole his identity. He took off with his credit cards, and so forth, and ran all over the country causing trouble in his name. This guy finally got tired of all the threatening phone calls, arrest warrants, yada, yada, yada.

Anyway, he got a lawyer and 'they' told him the only thing he could do is change his name, e.g. change his identity.

Bottomline: Have more than one ID. End of problem.

Sources of private info. for 'identity theft'

If you are not home when your mail is delivered to a mailbox (locked or otherwise)

If you fail to shred all your documents before placing them into the trash.

Everytime you use your credit card for a purchase.

Everytime you use your debit card for a purchase.

Anytime you fill out a form for the dentist, doctor, water, light, driver's license, car registration, marriage license, cash checking services.

Any time you have to present your identification you expose yourself to the possibility of identity theft. Even a name change does not allow you to run from your previous identity.

Even the most carefully hidden can be exposed by a small error. I was present one day when a new assignee to our unit asked a question; she asked the question in a voice loud enough to be heard by everyone in the room (including some civilians); the question exposed both names of a person who was in the federal witness protection program...

Privacy laws creates more work for law enforcement but offers blanket immunity from prosecution if they follow the correct procedures. The criminal is not hindered because he/she is not using his/her identity.

The protection afforded the private individual is a waiver of liability issued by banks and credit card companies. If someone uses your identity for other things, you are screwed.

If your identity is used to rent, lease, buy and even if the payments are made on time it can can affect access to your line-of-credit. But try to figure out who is renting an apartment with your info? You'll need to be creative or else get a subpeona. Either way, you have to bear the burden of solving the mystery and clearing your name.
