Can I have two domains on one account?

    Hello,

If I wanted to buy another URL, what would I have to do in order to use my same webspace?

For example I own 1.com, and now I want 2.com but I want to use the same 200MB from 1.com for my new URL.

Can this be done and what is the cost?

    Cheers,

    Ian

    Sub Domains

    Yup, you can......

There are basically two ways to handle your additional domain.

Firstly, you can get Jag to point your additional domain directly to your main domain........which will open up your main domain web site. or

Secondly, you can set up a subdomain directory from within your control panel and ask Jag to point your additional domain directly to the subdomain directory......this will open up an independant web site under the new domain name...

Best check with Jag the charges for this... I think with most a/c's you can point directly to your main domain for free, but pointing to a subdomain directory I think is charged... You should also be aware of two other points.. Your additional domain does not come with independant email.....so you will still have mail@1.com but you will not have mail@2.com & your direct path to your subdomain directory should not use "www" preceeding the url so in effect the path would be http://yoursubdomain.yourmaindomain.com and not
    http://www.yoursubdomain.yourmaindomain.com

You can also set up independant FTP access from within your control panel just for the subdomain directory, this comes in handy if you have a few people (staff) which will give them access only to the subdomain directory and not the rest of your webspace and files etc.

Hope this helps.....but best check with Jag for charges applied on your type of plan.

Is there any other way to do this but also having mail@1.com and mail@2.com?

Is it possible to do this or will i have to sign again for a new account?

    Thanks

    mail

Yes it is possible, Jag probably wont thank me for this but you could use the services of http://mydomain.com/ open an account (its free) and set your additional domain nameservers to those of mydomain.com. Once the domain has resolved you can then use mydomain.com to set up an email account for the additional domain (mail@2.com) and have it re-direct to another mail account. If you use a mail program you can then simply set the reply address for all mail coming to mail@2.com to mail@2.com, thus the person at the other end will only see mail@2.com. Using mydomain.com you can then point the domain itself to a subdomain of you webspace at Jag (giving you the additional website)

I just read that!!!! sounds a bit complicated but its not.

    good luck

Actually, it is possible to use email for domain2 without using an outside source. I do it. I have two domain names, one is my account's domain name and the other is a parked domain. For the parked domain I have set up aliases to addresses at domain1.

For example, if someone sends mail to jason@domain2, it really goes to jason@domain1.

The parked domain can't ahve any POP accounts, but it has an alias file, so you can set up all the aliases you want. You just need SSH access. Then you edit the /etc/valiases/domain2.com file.

I had this same question, but I am embarrassed to say that I understood little of what was just said. ;-)

This is what I want to do:

I have an online journal at www.amphigory.net (well, soon)
I want to create a website for my students at www.missteacher.net

Can I have both of these on the same account?

Can I have both without one being known by the other? (ie, if someone goes to my www.amphigory.net site, I don't want them to be able to find the www.missteacher.net site through amphigory and vice versa.)

Or do I just have to purchase another domain altogether?
