You could setup phpnuke which I think has plugins for forums so you could integrate your forums. You can have a members only place then after they register. Or are you wanting to grant people access to a whole other website after they have registered at one site? If you could elaborate a little more with what you are trying to accomplish I can give some better recommendations.

If the closed area is to be a forum: that's easy, pretty much every forum supports boards accessble only by specific members. If it's elswhere on the site (too), you'll have to look a bit further, but I think many CMS systems can take care of that. Just wait for Vin to pop in here and you'll know if PHP-Nuke does.

Sounds like you need a password gate. There are various methods including cgi, php, javascript, and Flash. Flash is probably the most secure with php being a close 2nd. Unless you have coding experience you may want to try a much simpler approach.

A much easier way to keep out "unregistered" persons, is to create an html form for psuedo registration with an autoresponding email. Then when the person submits the form, the email provides a link to the members only page. Just make the page something hard to find ie www. xyz .com /members/8kd2IF0KH33L.html

Then set code to keep out the bots.

You can even save the emails in a folder on you mail server and mass mail a different link occasionally.

Just though of an easier way...

Setup a members only section on your forum.

Then, in the members only section, pin a post with a link to the protected main page.

Members can then add the protected pages to their favorites.

OMG!!! I can't believe it, Chief!

I almost got kicked out of here for running PHP-Nuke 3 years ago. Remember that, when everyone thought Nuke was a resource hog, and all that?

    My, my! How times change!

If I understand the need, then yes, PHP-Nuke will satisfy his cravings...

CMSs are a compilation of many individual programs, glued together in one cohesive package (and one login). You can add or subtract from them at will - most through a control panel. It's good for beginners and 'pros' alike.

Personally, I prefer PHP-Nuke, and it's not just because I'm so heavily involved in the community. I really do think it's the best CMS - real cutting edge stuff. And, it uses phpBB, which I regard to be the best BB software.

All the rest are kinda stodgy, IMHO. You know, boring..

If you decide to go the PHP-Nuke route, I suggest you use version 7.6 or lower. I won't bore you with the details. Just take my word for it...

BTW, if you want to see what PHP-Nuke looks like, here's my production site:

    http://www.lenon.com/

Here's a canned version, pretty much what you'll see when you first install it:

    http://pilot.lenon.com/

I think the only thing I added to it is 'Bandwidth Meter DSL' - the forums aren't even enabled...
