Hola folks, l have a quick question..
I've got the GigaDeal Package/Plan, and l was wondering how much bandwidth my site was allowed to use up each month, before it got pulled offline?

    45 GB

But one ticket to sales gets you the "X5" at no extra charge (unless you paid up for 2 years, in which case they'd shorten a bit), with 75 GB.

Heyyyyyyy cool beans, thanks for the info!

-- just out of curiosity// would my site get shut down if/when l exceeded the 45gigs, or would l start to get smacked with the 1.00 per gig rate(s)?

I think the answer to your question is that the account would be suspended, unless you had made prior arrangements for the extra bandwidth. Otherwise there could be some seriously unhappy customers getting a huge bill which they didn't expect, and may not be willing to pay.

    Yes!

Users will start getting '509 Bandwidth Limit Exceeded' messages, effectively shutting down your site...

Also, be aware that purchsing extra bandwidth goes down as an 'autopayment', e.g. this additional bandwidth will be automatically added to your account each month, until such time as you decide to cancel the extra bandwidth. It's NOT a one-time thing!

Additional bandwidth can be a one time thing as well. You only need to specify this when the request is made.

Hey good info all around, thanks for the help.

So if my site did get suspended due to exceeding the bandwidth... would it "reopen" w/out a hitch after the month was over?

Or could l purchase extra bandwidth right there on the spot and get it opened back up?

My understanding is you will go back online, automatically, on the first day of the next month.

Yes, theoretically. However, I think I remember someone complaining that they exceeded their bandwidth during a weekend, when sales was closed, then something happened during the first of the week, so their site was down for several days. Whatever!

Personally, I wouldn't cut it that close, unless you don't care about your site being down for a while. You'll think you have it under control, but your eMail (which you forgot about) puts you over the top, probably on a holiday weekend, in accordance with Murphy's Law, et cetera...

There is an upside to all this...
An author hoping to spur sales of his book is facing a gigantic bill after an online publishing experiment went horribly awry.

Last week, writer Glenn Fleishman offered his book, Real World Adobe GoLive 6, as a free download.

But instead of the few hundred downloads Fleishman expected, the book was downloaded about 10,000 times in just 36 hours. And because he's charged incrementally for bandwidth, Fleishman estimates he could be billed $15,000 at the end of the month -- possibly a lot more.

"It's a financial catastrophe," said Fleishman. "I'm a working stiff with a mortgage ... I never suspected the penalty would be so high for giving something away.... It's like living in Singapore and getting 15 years in jail for chewing gum..."

Policies in place, here at JagPC, would keep this from happening, yes?

In other words: you can order it "on the spot", but it isn't added automatically. Someone from sales has to process it, which usually means it's quick within opening hours / waiting for sales to open when you order outside their hours. At least, so was the system last time someone posted about it (a few months back).

Yes, and this is similar to something that has happened with us in the past many years ago and brought about the current policy. We we're nice enough to dismiss the excess charge in our clients case though and help him understand how to better manage his resources. However we still let dedicated and colo clients roam free in the bandwidth pipes .
