man... that's not a good social commentary..."You have ladies that have been trying to get on welfare and food stamps, trying to get government assistance, housing. And then evacuees coming here and getting it instantly," said Lewis. "The whole city is a melting pot."
Heh! I guess Barbara Bush said it the best...What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway. This is working very well for them.

It's apparent that all Americans are outraged by the events that transpired after the storm. Keep that rage burning and directed towards demanding ALL the facts, and sustaining that rage when we enter the voting booth. However, we're getting off topic so I'll shutup.
No kidding! What a couple of worthless asshats -- a paranoid delusional black mayor and a shell shocked teary-eyed governorette. That's a recipe for disaster, all in itself!Originally Posted by Randy

It's probably not good commentary, but it's the truth. They're just giving them everything here. There are tons of people here that have been needing jobs for a long time and now we're making way for them to come and get jobs when the native Houstonians have been needed jobs for who knows how long. They're getting everything that the locals have been needing, but without strain or a time wait.
They are giving these people better housing that I live in. It's ridiculous.

Why is it everyone can't realize -- LIFE IS UNFAIR -- and the government isn't the solution to make everything equal.
There will be people who make a lot of money. There will be people who have athletic ability. There will be people who have good looks. There will be people who have brains. There will be people who have none of the above.
Why is it OK for people to feel bad that other people who have been through a natural disaster and been moved hundreds of miles from home, are getting "better help"?
Maybe we shouldn't give them any help? Or we should make them wait for 6 months?
Tell me, how does the government "win"? How could it be possible for the vast majority of people to say "Ya know, the government did a good job here"? It's impossible. Nobody will be happy with this situation. It's a DISASTER. Suck it up, stop complaining that some are getting more than you, and feel gratefull that you and your family, and your families lives weren't affected and blown away by the hurricane.
If you're angry, be angry at Katrina.
You seem to be able to afford internet access, and a website of no commercial value.Hey, how come you haven't monetized your website and earn a few dollars honestly and go and get yourself and/or your family better housing? What's the issue there?
Don't tell me it's a principles thing, if you can't afford to be principled and are looking for government assistance to meet your basic needs. I don't know if that's the case, but your message implied so.
I say to you: go and earn some money and pay some taxes to support your neightbors. Then come back and tell me about how unfair it is that you live in poor government subsidized housing.
Nothing personal, just talking in policy and general terms. You might make a fortune elsewhere, I don't know you or your situation. Though it does look and seem like you're a young bright and able-bodied young man.
Yep! Same thing here...Originally Posted by Rye Seronie Oh

My mother-in-law, on the other hand, who never missed a day of work at Dunn-Bradstreet, her entire career, is on a 3-year waiting list to get low-income housing.

Sometimes anger is based in ignorance. Sometimes anger is based in knowledge. I would judge that being angry at Katrina is ignorant...Originally Posted by Ron

This wasn't Karina's fault. It's because of Bush's environmental and economic policies, which caused global warming, and Christian white Republicans who hate blacks.

Clearly I was ignorant of or oblivious to those facts.
Hey, speaking of Gobal Warming.... You know that we're in an Ice Age right now, right?
You know that we're in a 10,000 year warming cycle inside of an Ice Age, and that we're nearing the end of that cycle, right?
So if we DON'T cause global warming... there will be ice sheets as far south as Texas, right?
Mass starvation, many species extinct... no crops...
So wouldn't global warming be protecting the lives of our descendants a few thousand years down the road?
The point being -- we just don't know what we're doing, or not.
Reminds me of a story.
There once was a farmer in China who had a horse. One day the horse ran away. All his neighbors came to console him, but he was not distressed.
He told them, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
A few days later the horse returned and with it was a mare. All his neighbors came to him to congratulate him on his good fortune, but again he would not mind them telling them, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
A week later his son was riding the mare, fell and broke his arm. Again the neighbors came to wish him condolences and tell him how very unlucky he was.
The farmer shook his head and said, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
A few days later, war was declared and all able-bodied young men were conscripted, but because on his son’s broken arm, he was not. "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
Global Warming. Good? Bad? Who knows?
Gawd! Don't get me started, Ron...Originally Posted by Ron

When this country was first populated by white ppl, they grew oranges as far north as Maryland. The freeze line has continued to creep south ever since. I think it's so far south now, that they can't even grow oranges in northern Florida...
Source: http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Stu...p_freeze4.htmlFor the past 150 years, the citrus industry, first established in the less disease-prone soils of northern Florida, has progressively moved southward to escape tree-killing freezes. A major southward migration shifted production into central Florida in the early 1900s, and production flourished. But several catastrophic freezes there in the 1980s drove many citrus farms even farther south, in particular to the southwest of Lake Okeechobee.
I was being sarcastic! When I hear ppl talk about 'global warming', it makes my blood boil...![]()

Last week was my (wedding) anniversary, so I took the day off to be with my wife. I asked her what she wanted to do. She's been wanting to buy a 'pound' dog, so she talked me into driving down to the barrios, next to the Greyhound Racing Park, in the worst part of Phoenix, to a dog pound, to check out some possibilities.
We were at the pound, trying to make up 'our' minds, and I suggested that we go to lunch and think about it. When I went to start the car, the battery decided to take that moment to internally short out and die.
I told her, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
After calling my son and telling him to come rescue us with tools and jumper cables, and surviving the biggest dust storm I've witnessed since watching pool photos from Baghdad, he finally arrived. While I was checking things out, I heard him talking to someone. It turned out to be a girl from the university that he had a crush on.
I told her, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
I ended up nursing my car home, buying a battery, and all the rest. By the time everything was said and done, it was 9:00 PM, and time for my wife to go to bed -- no dog, no anniversary, but at least my car had a new battery.
I told her, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
Two days later, while I was at work, she decided to go to another dog pound, and found a mutt she couldn't live without. She said, "It's a mongrel, with a flat face, pointed nose, and big eyes, but I love it!" So, I asked, "Why didn't you buy it?" "Because they're having a drawing for it tomorrow -- so many ppl want it -- they wouldn't even let me touch her." I told her, "Well, why don't you go back tomorrow, take your sister, and put two numbers in the hat?"
Next day, they went to the pound, put their names in. My wife didn't win, but her sister did. The dog pound didn't like the game they were playing, but decided to do the deal anyway. She called me on the phone and told me all about it...
I told her, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
On the way home, she decided to stop at Petco and buy some supplies. When she walked in the door with this "mongrel" in tow, she said everyone flipped out. What she had actually bought was a full-blooded "Cavalier King Charles Spaniel". They couldn't believe she found one in a dog pound.
I told her, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
It turns out, these dogs are a rare english breed, saved from extinction in the '40s, and recently added to the AKC registry in '96. Some of them have heart murmurs and slipping knee-caps, which they are trying to breed out of the line. When my wife took it to the vet, he said the dog didn't have the heart problem, but it did have the slipping knee caps in the two front legs -- no big deal until it gets old -- but, that's probably why it was neutered and in a dog pound...
The vet told my wife she 'might believe' the dog is 4 years old, maybe 5, but definitely not 6 as the 'pound' guessed. She said, dogs like this, from a reputable breeder go for $1300-$1500. My wife got it for $85.
I told her, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"![]()

Congrats on: The anniversary, the battery, the son's girlfriend and the dog. Not necessarily in that order.
Yes, I do understand and appreciated the sarcasm.
I paid $125 each for my last two dogs... but then again, it's sort of my business.
I am familiar with CKCS... I love that dog... have fun!
(Rescued dogs almost seem to know they are rescued...)
