Can I install mySQL 4.1 in own space?

Is it possible to install and have running a later version of mySQL database in one own server space. There is a wakawiki that is currently running on 4.1 and the standard installed in 4.0. It would be convienient to move to Jaguar servers without conversion.

This is one of the main advantages to a VPS account. You can run whatever versions of software you prefer.

I was refering to a non-VPS account. These folks are looking at the giga deal and not the full VPS at about 4x the cost. The current wiki package is running with 4.1.7 mySQL and downgrading is not a desireable thing. This is for a standard account and to move an existing wiki to it. I am not familiar with what mySQL installation involves and if it require true root access or can it be done from ssh session running jailshell?

Right; you can't install any permanently running apps on a shared account.

However, you could inquire with support whether they could upgrade MySQL on your server for you. For reasons of the time it takes cPanel to integrate and check they can't do the very latest version MySQL put out generally (and it certainly has to be a stable version), but they might well be able to do a 4.1 instead of the 4.0.
