I agree. I am an avid user of Mambo and will be converting to Joomla in the near future. I have torn Mambo apart inside and out over the last year/year and a half. Joomla definately does have the momentum compared to the left over/recreated Mambo team, vision, etc.

So is Joomla any easier to work with than Mambo?

Tried it out a while back and it sucked to high heaven.

Why not just install it yourself? It's a piece of cake!

I was bored and decided to install Joomla, after reading this thread. I downloaded it at 8:27 and had it up n' running at 9:10.

One of the problems with using Fantastico for something like this is, Apache (nobody) takes ownership of the files, so changing the permissions and so forth is pure hell.

Personally, I prefer to install/maintain my own software as much as possible, even if it's available as an option in cPanel, but that's just me...

Anyway, Joomla was a pretty easy install. If anyone wants me to walk them though it, let me know.

Sorry. I guess I'll rephrase my comment. I see the benefit of updating it for other users. I always do installs myself and hack them up.

It is available in Fanastico... install Mambo from Fantastico and then go back to the Mambo Summary page in Fantastico and there is a link to upgrade to Joomla from there.

Joomla is available now in Fantastico. All shared/reseller servers updated with it.

It's easy for those with no experience in installing stuff who just want a "one click" install or for people who is just starting out with their own domain/webspace and have no clue what is out there of applications.

But yeah it is better to just grab the thing from the dev site and install it that way.

Personally If you cant install a Simple Application with out the need for Fantastico, maybe you should not be operating your own web site

That one is probably for upgrading from Mambo to Joomla.

Joomla is available as one click install as well now.

    I know

In some of the places I travel online it seems to be the rage going directly to operating your own website instead of starting at one of the free places first.

    I just dont understand it

My first web page was a Simple HTML site made with frontpage of all things Then I learned HTML, and then I learned php

Now I write my own Applications and sometimes write apps for other people

But if your going to run a web site you should ATLEAST know alittle people,

Under their logic I guess I just need to go out and hop in an 747 airplane and start flying.
