    IE /yuck

Well Ive finally done it. I deleted something in my internet explore directory that seems to have permanantly destroyed my IE. Cant reinstall becuase of various errors about my version already being higher and cant receive windows updates or anything due to IE being decomishioned now. LOL , stupid browser.

So from now on I guess all jag sites and designs will be comptible with all mozilla engine browsers and we will just assume it works in IE.

I'll never understand why a company would blend their entire OS so heavily into the web browser. I guess an OS reinstall is in my future, not sure I have the energy left to put windows back on this pc, Suse is the runner up.

Maybe this would be one of those rare occasions when the "repair" option in Windows setup might work...

Good luck with figuring it out.

    LOL!

Maybe you should call MS tech support...oh wait, that'll cost you $35 to talk with someone who barely understand English and in the end you'll be 3 steps farther back than you are now! (I've had a bad experience with MS tech support if you can't tell. I'm glad JPC support is more responsive.)

If decide to go with Windows, don't forget to create a Ghost image after reinstall

I always thought that it was impossible to break IE. If you can't open iexplore.exe, surely you can still get online over explorer.exe. They're almost the same thing. I have a Mac though. =)

for a long time I got the "your not allowed to open this program" error when tring to access IE..

I always had to go to "my computer" or some other file explorer dir and then type in the URL and it would work

I only used it when I need to check compatiblity anyway so I just lived with it until it finally crashed all together and I had to reinstall windows.

That's what I would do. I've reinstalled Windows 100s of times. In the old days (1.0 => 3.1), you lost everything. With Win95 it was pretty easy to lose everything, if you clicked the wrong option. When Win98 came out, you kind of had to work at it, to lose everything, even if you wanted to. With W2K, it's almost impossible to lose everything.

Anyway, a reinstall should get everything working again. The only problem is you'll have to reinstall all the updates too. It takes me about a half-hour to reinstall Windows, and another 2-3 hours of running Windows Update, over-and-over again, until everything is back to snuff...

Yep. And then there's the endless list of 3rd party applications to reinstall, register, patch, and reconfigure. That usually takes me considerably longer. If you can mirror a drive or ghost an image, that saves an enormous amount of time and trouble.

Jag, I empathize with your plight. Restoring from an "officially sanctioned" MS archive backup is always an adventure too - if you have one; well, it's always been one for me, especially with a multidrive system.

Norton Ghost, Vin. Format your HD, leave it exactly how you want it (programs, settings, Windows updates, etc.), make a HD image with Ghost. When trouble comes, just dump the image of the HD you created with Ghost. Obviously you need to have at least two HDs in your PC where you save docs, pictures, videos, etc. or at least have one in the network for that purpose.

Then it's just a matter of dumping the image and everything will be running like new. I have an image for every PC that I own.

Ah, okay! Yeah, I've used proggies like that before, for doing a mass move from an old HD to a new HD. The last mirroring tool I used was Seagate DiscWizard. Worked great -- saved me mucho time! I think my FTP client estimated the transfer time at 3.5 hours, but DiscWizard took care of it in a few minutes...

Yep, they make a mirror image alright -- errors, defects and all. For instance, if you have bad sectors locked out on your old HD, they lock out good sectors on your new HD, et cetera. Pretty amazing technology, if you think about it...

That's not how Ghost works. But even if it would be so, I would rather sacrifice few good sectors than hours of admin work
