    Forum upgrade -> forum troubles?

    http://forums.jaguarpc.com/showthread.php?t=12931

Is it just me (i.e. something on my end) or are there some issues with the forum since it was upgraded earlier today? Many images are missing for me (including avatars when looking at topics), I can't get through to the individual forum views, etc. I smuggled this thread in with some difficulty too as I couldn't get to any page with a "post new topic" button
    Regards,

Its just Ie, its puking out some dumb dns error when there is no dns problem. Something in javascript for our old design isnt sitting well with vb3.5 . I hate when they make their own template system incompatible with old templates. We're looking at a fix, for now the old basic vb3.5 design will work or dont use IE> my choice!

well some changes were made but I think we worked out the problems and in doing so lost some features. I may tweak it again later or maybe not. If anyone has some tweaks they would like to see in the forums just post me a link to complete directions or provide them here and I'll take a stab at it.

I don't use IE, I use FireFox. The only difference I have seen at this point is the quick reply no longer shows and I'm glad. Never liked that feature anyway.

    Still problematic

I wish that were the case. I've lost the ability to log in with Mozilla (Mozilla 1.7.8). That's a problem... well, to me anyway. I've had to load up MSIE to post, but will likely not visit much more if IE is my only option. Yeah, yeah, good riddance and don't let the door hit ya' on the way out - I've heard it before. Well, not really, but I can sense it now. I don't know if it's my particular browser or which Mozillas it affects, but it affects mine.

Also, the forum is throwing this error no matter which browser I use:
    Code:
An error occurred while attempting to log you out. Click here to log out.
Is there some caching issue that could cause these errors? Are the HTML headers updating properly? I don't see a date meta tag in the source, so maybe there is some other timing issue going on.

Did you clear the cookies in your browser, close all browser windows and restart it?

    Thumbs up Clearing cookies worked

Thanks Vin. Yes, that worked. Mozilla's cookie manager showed about 40 cookies for Jaguar, so there must have been multiple forum sessions worth that were screwing things up. Never happened before but it did this time. My current browser session, which had been running for days before restarting, shows but six which is a more reasonable number.

I still like Firefox, but it's about as exciting as brushing your teeth, these days.

    No prob!

Yeah, when you can't clear your cookies, e.g. logout, it's usually 'cause something has been changed in the web site config. All you can do is kill them manually...

I use mozilla, netscape, firefox, and hate IE personally. Believe me a problem with mozilla is more important the crowd here at jag then IE.

Im not having any problems posting though. Im only using Mozilla 1.7.11, guess I need to update.

    Just a test post
I guess I can post... using IE here.

    Reaching the forum via "forum.jaguarpc.com"

I guess I can edit, too.

LOL no, sorry I can see how that is a little bit ambiguous. It means that everything is fine from my standpoint.

I haven't tried other browsers or URLs... though the URL issue is something that you might want to address via .htaccess at some point, Greg.

When people post links, if they don't post it with the same URL structure that you happen to be using, VB craps out and demands a new login, which then screws up your old login.... at least , this is the way it used to be.

Plus in the search engines, I used to see stuff from the forums listed under Aletia, and various approaches to the forum, which hurts with duplicate content penalties -- I don't think you want Google to penalize forum.jaguarpc.com because it has data from forum.aletia.com

I haven't checked any of this out for a while though. Except the re-login requirement happened today on a link... I had to just manually change the link from www.jaguarpc.com/forum to my version...

Anyway, what is YOUR preferred URL for the forum?

BTW I liked the quick reply box, and the rapid return . Also the forum seems snappier.
