If you sleep with birds, you run the risk of contracting Avian Flu. As was famously made plain in the AIDS/HIV ads of the 1980s, when you sleep with birds, you sleep not only with that bird, but every bird they have slept with for the last 20 years!![]()

But seriously, 50 or 60 years....
I'm tempted to do a google search to find out, but I'm afraid of what I'd see.Originally Posted by Daiver

In February 2004, there was an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a flock of 7,000 chickens in south-central Texas...

But, what if you mix them with sauerkraut. Yeah, scrambled eggs with sauerkraut. A little ketchup or hot sauce, and mmmmm.

Yep!
Well, assuming nobody on this web site is sleeping with birds, how else can 'we' protect ourselves from Bird Flu?
Scientisits know, for a fact, that Bird Flu can be spread by (mis)handling chicken eggs, e.g. Bird Flu can (and does) exist on egg shells. The concern, now, is whether or not the Bird Flu makes its way into the inside of the egg itself...
I don't know about you but, starting today, I'm washing the feces-laden chicken eggs that come into this house from the local supermarket. I wouldn't think about eating carrots, celery, et cetera without washing them, so it's not such a stretch... or is it?
