    Anyone using e107 php?

    Hello,

I am not hosted on jaguar (yet).. I have a e107 php site and am in host hell.

I am wondering if anyone with a e107 php site hosted here could either post your link or email me with it. I just want to try it and see how it works. On my current host, people on the West Coast can hardly load a page..

    BTW,
I wrote support here asking for this info. They asked me to post this in the forums for your input. At first I thought that was kind of lame, and why not just give me some sites?? But I realized that many hosts (my current one ) would NOT want their users having input in influencing a new customer.

So this is a very positive sign for me with moving to Jaguar.

    Thanks in advance

Welcome, we hope to see you among our forums on a more routine basis soon . You were probably referred here for a few reasons actually.

    1) As you said it already, we're not afraid of what our own users have to say. In fact our users are our strongest selling point.

    2) Given the large number of clients and sites we have it would be impossible for a tech to readily know who might be using a specific application on their site.

    3) Probably most importantly, privacy issues. We prefer to let our clients here reveal their sites, names, info about them like what software might run their services or sites instead of us volunteering that to unknown persons.

Having said that, we have a very large number of users using all types of CMS out there including e107. Im not sure if any are actively using our forums here but time will when/if someone posts about their experiences. It is being used by some of our clients though.

If your not hosted here I doubt you will get many takers. I don't use php so I can't help at all. If your not a customer not sure why anyone else would give you a link to their website.

Guess that's the catch 22 then isn't it? I'm not going to move my site unless my members can be assured they can access it okay.

Glad that was worth your time to post that to me.. Makes me feel right at home..

And you're right.. Most people don't want people to access their sites..

    No worries, I'll keep looking..

    Thanks!

Heh! I don't care who accesses my site[s], but I'm not running e107 (edit - until now).

If you want I'll throw a e107 site up for you to play with. I doubt if it'll take more than 15 minutes.

In the meantime, knock yourself out...

I actually have your site already linked on my desktop Been all over it the last couple nights and it loads great for me.

Not that it matters, but We just moved last month after running out of space on our original host of 2yrs. In the meantime they have moved us to 4 different servers and it's been total chaos.. For some reason, users from the West Coast can hardly load a page w/o it timing out. It's a large host, everything seems fine, but 1/2 the users can't connect..

Short version, I really like the support here at Jaguar.
I'm looking for a place we can just grow with.. But I need to know that everyone can connect okay.

So I will post your site(s) on my forum and let them have at it.. We are not all that big, but have been together for over 3yrs.. And people are upset.

    Thanks for your help..

    -Dan

Yeah, I went through all that bullsh!t. I've been doing this since '96 and every host I had, except for this place sucked! Sometimes I changed hosts twice a year...

Anyway, this place rocks! Give 'em a chance. You won't be sorry!

Okay, it's 11:23 PM. Let's light this candle...

I just created a subdomain using the JagPC cPanel: http://e107.lenon.com

11:26 PM: I found the site and downloaded the latest stable proggie and unzipped it to my PC. Usually, the website has an install tutorial, which I read while uploading the files to 'my' server using SSH/SCP, but evidently no such luck here -- bad sign!

11:37 PM: Upload complete. No README file -- bad sign! Took a stab and ran 'install.php'. Nothing is writable. Changed permissions to Octal 777 reclusively... File permissions okay now!

11:44 PM: Damn thing wants a sql db. Okay, back to cPanel...

11:50 PM: Sql db created and confirmed.

11:52 PM: Went through a few more screens. Website created...

Here you go! Have at it: http://e107.lenon.com/news.php

Maybe I'll switch to e107. Do you think I can take the community over in 6 months?

I'm not sure what either one of you is getting at. How will looking at (the front end of) your current site give an impression of how it will perform on JagPC? Why would JagPC users of e107 not want to tell simply because dmyers isn't a customer yet? IMHO they either have no problem letting people know they run e107, or they will never want to make that known, period. I expect most webmasters to be in that first group and hope one of those strolls in here soon.

That not having happened yet, let's try to find out another way. First: PHP sites in general run just fine here. You've been all over Vin's site you say. That runs PHP Nuke, which is one of the most elaborate and thereby server-taxing ones around. I assume this e107 has a following of its own? Then doesn't it have a website, support forum or mailinglist archive that will give you an impression of how "hard" it is on a server relative to other CMSses? If it's nothing special, then expect it to work just fine here. If it is said to be a good bit more taxing or has no following that can tell you at all, then I'd wonder about using different CMS anyway instead..

    Vin DSL,
I think you can, I think you can, I think you can....

Thanks for your help. Sorry I have not replied sooner, I've had a couple of bad weeks....

Everyone says they can load your site(s) just fine. So, it's off to the races for me.

Thanks for making that e107 site too.. You crack me up..

Yes Gwaihir you are correct, it didn't need to be e107, I should have just said php/CMS.
It's just that many users wanted to try another php site before we moved it again. I had e107 on the mind.. My bad.
But thank you for taking the time to help me think it out..

Our current problems have been more of West Coast users having serious issues loading pages. I don't understand it, but that's the problem. So, I was thankful for the help here and letting my users be able to try loading pages to make sure they could before moving again.

Thanks to both of you for posting and making me feel at home.

Okay... Jaguar got my site moved today! YIPPE.. I can not believe that someone did what they said they would do!!

You have no idea what I've been through the last month and to actually have someone do what they say!! SHOCKING...

Thank you Jaguar Tech(s). You not only moved the site, but did it so fast!

I have a question, and I don't want to bug support before I make sure it's not something I have done or can fix myself.

I have 2 php plugins that have stopped working since the move. I wrote the author and he and I went through all the steps on the site. It all looks fine and the folder / files are all there. He later wrote me this :

"Some hosts have firewalls which block LGSL & Shoutcast from working, email your host asking to open your server query port"

Now, I know some about ports etc.. But is there a certain port just for querys? Is this something I can turn on in the Cpanel?

I know VinDSL runs about every plugin there is for phpNUKE so, I would think that all the ports are open?

Just a FYI, I did do a re-install of the apps and had the author look them over. They should be working.

    Thanks!!
