    Question Best plan for me?

    Greetings,

I was hoping to get some recommendations on which plan seems to suit my needs the best.

I currently have one pretty big site (abour 1.5gigs with 10-20gigs of transfer/month) hosted on a shared server, and 4-5 other small sites (under 100megs and under 1gig transfer/month) some hosted here some not. I would like to consolidate these under one plan. They would all be administered by one person (namely me).

So, would it be better to get a reseller plan and have a different account for each? Or a VPS plan? Or Semi-Dedicated?

I think I'm leaning towards the semi-dedicated, due to the one big site - but I am all ears for your opinions.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

The Longhorn has 6 gigs of space, so it should be able to hold your site. It also has 6 gigs of transfer PER day so you should be okay there as well. It had the unlimited multi-host domains also so you can have the sites separate under different domains if you do it that way.

It has the space and the bandwidth, so I would assume even that package would work. The servers are just as fast! =D

If you are using any server-insensive programs (busy forums, etc.) then you might want to consider semi-dedicated. Otherwise, as stated, teh Lnghorn should handle your needs as far as space and bandwidth are concerned. Since you are already hosting here, are you noticing a problem with your big site in terms of speed and that's why you're asking?

The staff (Masood or Eric, I believe) has said before that you probably won't achive a big performance difference between semi-dedicated and VPS. VPS will be harder to manage, however, since you have full control of everything (Apache, mail server, etc.).

A reseller package gives you the benefit of having a separate control panel for each of your sites. This might be useful if you have other people administering some of your sites. If you're the only one at the helm then it is just a matter of personal choice. I'm not sure how the reseller servers are set up, but since resellers have the option of hosting unlimited domains within their accounts on those machines there is the very real possibility that the server will be as loaded (or more loaded) than a standard shared machine, so you may not see a difference between that and the account you have now.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses...the big site is a little on the slow side (it is a phpbb forum), but it's not too bad. I think I will go with the semi-ded as it's probably just a matter of time 'til I need to get it anyway.

One more question, what's the process of multi-hosting domains? Do I put each site in a sub-folder and just direct that particular domain to that subfolder? Is it ok to keep one site in the root folder or should they all be in subfolders?

    Thanks again.

The old process was to create a subdoman in your account and have support point the multihosted domain to that subdomain.

You can now set up the multihosted domain yourself in cPanel, but it checks to see if the domain is pointed to non-JPC DNS servers before iot lets you set up the domain--if it is then the setup will fail. If you are moving a domain and you don't want to take down the current site while the domain name propagates to the new server then you can still follow the old method.

The multihosted domains, just like subdomains on your main domain, will point to subfolders within your public_html. You can still use your main site as you do now.
