I certainly hope the report is wrong. Although, I am beginning to doubt my earlier assessment of George W. Bush. Perhaps he isn't simply stupid. Increasingly, evidence is beginning to suggest he is stupid and insane with power.

The republican congress on the other hand...definently anti-American.
Immigration reform? It appears the Republicans are so worried about losing control they are resorting to the devisive tactics of race baiting with the futile and fervent hope that pitting Whites against Mesicans will allow the Republicans to remain in power.

Housekeeping, construction, farming, lawn maintenance, law enforcement, the courts, and prisons are just some of the industries that will be negatively impacted by shutting down the border with Mexico.

After all, getting rid of the Mexicans will create jobs that Blacks associate with slavery and Anglos can't/won't perform for the same wages.

Restaurants, fast-food joints, motels, etc. will be forced to pay more and the increased production costs will drive prices up and soon only the wealthy will be able to eat out, attend sporting events, watch movies, and spend a night in a hotel at a destination they reach by plane. Ahh, the good 'ole days...
When rich, white folk ruled supreme and everyone else knew their place. Maybe Vin is right for once...maybe we are headed towards civil war... Of course whites will win, they have the money, guns, and congress. It's how "they" won in Vietnam, Croatia, Afghanistan, and now Iraq.

On a more personal note: Once, about 30 years ago, I was abducted by Mexicans (sent to a farm for the summer as "a learning experience") and spent time working in the bean, beet, hay, and corn fields.

Up before sunrise, 17 hours of back-breaking work under a scorching sun and constant nosebleeds (which I now believe were caused by the pesticides) for the grand reward of $2/day.

You are as far extreme with dire predictions about what would happen if we shut the border completely, as the other side is with dire predictions of the opposite.

If they closed the borders and then secured the borders (ha!) then re-patriated all of the "undocumented workers" the economy wouldn't die off; we'd have a wave of innovation and invention and a very few (compared to the workforce) wages would be increased. Big deal. You think that paying someone $20 an hour instead of $3 to pick a few hundred pounds of tomatoes per hour will add up to that much of a difference at the register? Do the math. We're talking 8cents per pound if the difference is $17 an hour, which is probably more than they'll need to pay) and they pick 200 pounds an hour, which is probably really low.

If everyone has to pay more for labor, there may/will be a small price increase, but nobody can afford to pay more for labor if the guy down the street is using ILLEGALS to pick, and can underprice by 8c a pound. Nobody will buy his tomatoes at 8c more so he can afford to pay $20 an hour.

As for calling them "undocumented workers", that's a little bit like calling a bank robbery an "undocumented withdrawal".

The disclosure may or may not be a threat; however, the entire U.S. arsenal, whether diplomacy or hardware, is available to protect American interests. That the U.S. has a contingency plan is not news. That we would consider nukes is not news. That we dislike this new Middle Eastern Hitler is not news. The news is that so many would ignore or continue to placate yet another regional agitator who continues to demonize Israel as a nationalistic unifier. Actually, that's not news either.

Any country will use every tool in their arsenal to defend themselves. Whether or not they pull them out to defend an ally is a different matter. The U.S. has and will. That cannot be said of other countries universally.

Fortunately, the U.S. has many levels of weapons and this new one is meant to focus the most damage into a smaller area. It is violent but not catastrophically violent. In a dangerous world sometimes that's the best that we have.

It took the pickers FOUR years to get the extra penny. Story

It is illegal to rob somebody, and they are illegal aliens. I may seem rude for saying it, but why doesn't anybody understand that illegal means that they should not be here. If we patriate everybody that is here, fine, but I'm all for closing the borders. Illegal labor destroys all the labor laws that this country has. The workers aren't technically here, so the employers don't have to treat them lawfully.

I know that there illegal aliens are doing the jobs that some of us think we are too good for, but that's going to have to change. Our society has more racial prejudices in it now than it ever should have had.

We keep going on and on about racism, why? When minorities call racism, all they do is piss everybody off. We (white males) really are tired of this $%@^ where people pull the race (or gender) card out on us and sue us. While there are some bad elements, why do we all get punished and wrongly stereotyped?

Without getting into the weeds of the illegal immigration debacle (that's what blogs are for), you are exactly right on this one. For years I did a job "Americans won't do" and that "only illegal aliens/undocumented worker/euphemism du juor will do" to pay for my education. It took me a while to get degreed, but that's because I wasn't rich enough to coast on my family's money, wasn't ethnic enough to get a special scholarship/subsidy, or poor enough to qualify for government handouts. Nevertheless, I, like many "bigoted", "racist", and "insensitive" LEGAL Americans did years of unpleasant work to try and succeed. Thanks for proving my point. I only guessed at how much was earned per pound. They went from 1.3 to 2.3 cents per pound under that agreement with Yum!.

So if everybody the industry HAD to pay 8c a pound for pickers, that would mean the pay would go up about 6 times. You'd probably be able to find native US workers to pick at that pay scale, but I'm not sure. Tell ya what! Let's make it illegal (and enforce it!) to hire anyone without proper documentation, and let's find out! Oh wait, that might cause the illegals and their "progressive" friends to protest in the streets.

As far as saying "it's millions of dollars" to Yum!, anything they do is millions of dollars. If they shake less salt into their "meat" it's a million bucks. It truly is only a million bucks, but why should they bend over (backwards!) for just anybody who thinks that an employee of a supplier should get more money? I'd fight it too.

How about this: Next time you go into Wal-Mart to buy yourself a:

You give them an extra 2% and ask them to pass it along to the lady in China who assembled it for you. Better yet, start a retail company that does this kind of fair trading and attract millions of other progressives (who are of course buying at WalMart) as your customers! Compete with WalMart! Open a store or two! Do the right thing! Sell shares only to people who want to buy shares in a "socially responsible" company. There ARE investors like that out there! Do it! There must be tens of millions of "progressives" like you out there willing to step up and shop at your higher priced store. C'Mon!
Stop whining and DO something about it!
