Cool The "Golden Super Furry Linen" Edition

    What's wrong with this picture?

    http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=380687

Is it just me, or is phpBB getting sillier all the time??? Wink, wink...

It has come to my attention that the Code changes file (used for upgrading heavily MODded installs) which was available briefly this evening may contain some errors...

Within my personal life i had some ups and downs the last weeks... but this is a story i do not want to tell, it's just hard to get out of it, to reach a point where you are able to break out of the circle, leaving some alone, getting back to own basics.

Not really much happened lately... my best friend moved to Stuttgart lately, for a new employment. Let's see how he likes it. Last time he wanted to move he came back after 8 hours. Now, he already managed to stay for 2 weeks in a hotel and visiting us this weekend.
Sheesh! phpBB is a gay bulletin board system?!?!?

Do you see text that I dont? I'm not sure what your trying to say here. I don't see how their sexual orientation has anything to do with the bord and what does it matter. And as I said, still dont get what your refering to or are conserned with?

phpBB is full of errors -- always has been, always will be. And, the fixes are full of errors. How is this possible?

The Bible says, "No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit... People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers."

If you'll pardon the pun, I would suggest that bad fruits don't produce a good tree either... and I'm starting to think that the phpBB tree is being produced by bad 'fruits'...

So because software has bugs their developers are gay ?

Guess they have a gay campus in redmond too then. I really do not see your bible translations into anything what makes sense if it comes to software development.

    Kind regards,
    Patrick

It's just Vin being Vin, overlook it. You won't find logic anywhere in that

But yeah, the "Golden Super $h177y Edition" sucks like rapid decompression. I downgraded back to 2.0.19 so my forum would work properly again. The problem doesn't seem to be present in a fresh unmodded install of phpBB (not for me anyway, but others have reported that, yes, it is present). That initial omission in the code changes file was just the start of how crappy 2.0.20 is.

I kept the .20 version of my board around so that I can upgrade it to .21 when it comes out. If the problems I've experienced aren't gone, I might seriously have to consider switching to another forum. I love phpBB3, but it's still in "pre-alpha" (after 4 years since 2.0 came out). Maybe if these jerk-offs would stop re-writing the software from the ground up every half a decade and just release feature upgrades like a NORMAL software project, they wouldn't suck. Seriously, phpBB is years behind everything else. The only reason I'm still using it is familiarity, the abundance of mods, and the hassle of moving my existing community to a new system.

If I could afford vB, phpBB would be a distant memory very quickly! Hmph!

Galen, when was this? The update thread over there reports this *should* be long fixed. Is that the problem you suffered from, or were your troubles more recent?

    Oh dear...

But still don't see why they would be the cause of the bugs ...

Anyways, using phpBB for quite some time now, and yes, we have once had a unfortunate event of not upgrading fast enough. But still its free and it does what we need from it.

Of course i want developers to create stable bugless software, but that in my point of view is an utopia, but who knows what the future brings.

But i complain harder about software i have to pay for as for software i can use for free.

    Kind regards,
    Patrick

Yes, I know you (collectively) *feel* that way much of the time... However, you should also know... when 'you guys' resort to ad hominem attacks, it doesn't bother me a bit. It just means 'you' don't have any defense of 'your' ideals!

And, why is that? Because most ppl are living in a hypnotic state.

They have been 'programmed' from birth, by their parents, and later by society, to believe this or that is true or false -- and when this subliminal programming is challenged, they don't know how to respond except through person attacks. This has been 'programmed' into 'you' as well!

So, don't *feel* poorly that you can't understand what I'm saying. I don't expect 'you' to understand or agree. If you'll pardon the pun, I just throw things out, from time to time, see if anyone is 'awake'.

When I snap my fingers it is your signal that I have finished my message. You will then slip from this hypnotic state into normal sleep. You will nap until you feel rested and you will remember only that part of this experience about which you feel comfortable. When you wake up you will do so freely and easily and you will feel fine about everything that has happened. You will have no lingering effects from these events. I will count down from three and snap my fingers. Three, two, one . . .

It's a quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I highly recommend the BOOK if British humor appeals to you. With equal measure I warn against the MOVIE unless you are under the influence of powerful mind altering substances. The movie is terrible IMHO.

Also If anyone is upset that their issue with "this or that" hasn't been solved by Les in sufficient time it's because I was in a deep hypnotic trance again thanks to Vin's post.

    All together now,

    ~Thanks Vin!~

My favorite book of all time. If you haven't heard the radio plays (originally produced by the BBC) I highly recommend them. They were actually the first incarnation of the whole Hitchhiker's thing.

I agree with you on the movie, I was severely dissappointed in it.

10 times better than phpBB, features that're almost on par with vB, developers who aren't arrogant pricks (and who actually LISTEN to users) and it's just as FREE

As soon as their phpBB converter is finished, I'm switching.
