Verisign buys Geotrust

Last week Geotrust announced the were selling to verisign

I wonder what that means for RapidSSL and the cheap SSL certificates? will verisign continue with rapidssl or will it be shut down???

I wouldn't be surprised if Verisign keeps GeoTrust and RapidSSL exactly as they are now. GeoTrust has two good products going, why mess with that?

Verisign already owns Thawte (since 2000), but other than looking at the corporate timeline, you see no mention of Verisign on the Thawte site.

I'd be more worried about the monopoly that Verisign is building than with them discontinuing products.

Isn't that pretty much what he's worried about?

My take on it is that's he's worried that they'll drop the GeoTrust-owned roots and switch everyone to their current certificate offerings (which are all priced higher than almost all of GeoTrust's line).
