Wondering about the effect of the upgrades

    Hey JAG Staff --

Now that you've got a couple of weeks of server upgrades under your belt, I was wondering if you'd comment on the effects.

How has server load been pre-upgrade and post upgrade?
    How's memory usage going?
    Any decreases in I/O waits?
    How's the new email setup?
Recently you paused to document some issues, care to share what they were and how the new version of the conversion is going?
Roughly what percentage of clients (if any) are having post conversion problems, and with which upgrade?

    Thanks folks!

There has been improvement on all fronts. There is no doubt about it. The load has decreased after the upgrade.

The php upgrade has the biggest impact on security of web sites. It has some good side effect on memory usage.

The mail system upgrade has been most efficient in terms of cpu and i/o wait.

I have been updating the 3 announcements with the issues that were encountered. You can check them out.

I would say less than 5% clients have faced problem after the upgrade (probably 2~3%), and almost all of them were related to php upgrade and couple of related to mail system. All issues are already covered in notes of the announcements.

Thanks for the info Masood (and all your hard work).

For what it's worth to those of you who are worried, my server was upgraded last night and I've had no problems at all today. My main site is running WordPress (which uses PHP and mySQL).

    Thanks!

Would it be possible in the future if you have to update the announcements again, would you also reply to them and in the reply state the change that you made to the original?

    I've subscribed to the threads:

MySQL upgrade 4.0.x to 4.1.x MySQL

so I'll be notified if my action items are changing!

    Thanks!

    Indeed!

I don't really mind the rereading that much, but if there's no new post, there's no pointer.

Considering my server was just updated on the 28th, and my site was just hacked 10 mins ago (30th), by the "Cyber Raider Tim". I'm not very impressed.

Ah, life in the fast lane.. Your mileage may vary..

What was actually hacked? A web application? That means you had a vulnerable release.

The php security will not fix the vulnerable code installed on your account! I wish it could do that magic However it will protect other innocent users on the server from a vulnerability of another user's web application.

    Since you asked.

My site was hacked by Cyber-Raider Hack Team. A quick google shows I'm in pretty good company.

They managed to delete my index.htm and index.php.
Then install their own index.html. Which redirects and displays their web site.

I'm glad other innocent users will be safe at least.

It does not matter which hack team they name it, most are just script kiddies abusing known exploits. What I would be interested in is the name of the web application that is/was installed in your account.
