I live in Arizona and I'm a man... and, you get a red grape! Get it?

Here's to swimmin' with bow-legged women!

    From page 5:

    From page 8:

    1med.JPG

Those with a sharp eye may noticed that nearly all the workers at ECSM are women. We asked the male plant manager why there are so many women working here compared to men. His answer, and I quote, was...

"We hire women because they're easier to control."

    2-med.JPG

ECS is run military style with strict rules and regulations. In the above photo you can see a male manger reading the rules to a group of new female employees.

The company provides dormitory housing and food for the workers. A grape system is used to reward and punish them. A green grape means the worker is performing to accepted standards, a red grape means they're not. Get enough green grapes and you get a reward, like being on a line where you can sit down. Get enough red grapes and you'll find yourself on the street. You can get a red grape for infractions such as talking on the job or coming back to your dorm late. Outside of work, there really isn't much to do. The plant is huge and the only thing nearby are other manufacturing plants.

ECS workers are paid an average of 1000RMB per month ($100US), or about the price of one ECS motherboard. The ECSM plant has 11,000 workers pumping out 2.5 million motherboards a month. Out of that 2.5 million, 11,000 goes to employee wages. That gives ECS a productivity ratio that no American manufacturer can ever hope to match. I asked the plant manager how many shifts ECSM runs on. He told me two. I then had the following conversion.

Me: "Oh, so that means this plant shuts down part of the time?"
Plant Manager: "No, we run 24 hours a day."
Me: "But you said you only have two shifts."
Plant Manager: "That is correct, two 12 hour shifts."
Me to myslf: "Welcome to China."
BTW, I use ECS motherboards whenever possible, so Communism isn't necessarily a bad thing for the end-user. If you'll pardon the pun, you can't beat 'em!

Interesting look behind the scenes. Don't agree with the philosophy that women are easier to control (Takes red grape), think it more has something to do with womens attention to detail.

Their QA numbers are amazing though. Wish hubbys employer could say the same (He works for a major government avionics contractor).

I dont think its a matter of control though so much as crap you get from men. Every man fights his way to the top, or tries, through whatever tactics he feels he can get away with all the while probably harrassing most the women.

Women are simply more well behaved and courteous to others plus come on... w workplace without any men... thats most womens preferred work atmosphere. Typical, the guy thinks he is in "control" by hiring all women but naturally they run the show on a more subliminal level. Afterall they managed to convince the one guy there to hire just women

It's all just a plot to indoctrinate large groups of women into a para-military mindset in preparation for a westward assault in a bid for world-wide domination.

Indentured servitude...the bane of an over-populated economy...disassembling the economy as worker unrest is fomented into rebellion.

Ooh the irony...a Union Rep extolling the virtues of non-Union labor.

Considering the language barrier, I sincerely doubt that the manager actually meant to say "easier to control." I can think of a few Chinese sentences with that meaning that could ALSO mean different things.

Likely, the manager or the translator chose that particular translation because they thought it made the most sense.

But it could have also mean... "easier to manage" (which would imply what Jag said about being more well-behaved and generally more courteous... or it could have meant more productive) or "easier to train."

By the same token, based on what I've seen here... the women are neither very well behaved or very courteous, if only because in cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and other large Chinese metropolitan areas, women are treated every bit the same as men.

Women don't get "softer" treatment nor do they expect it. There's no such thing as a salary discrepancy. That's part of what you would call the "Chinese communist model." The whole traditional "women < men" mentality comes from Confucius (and it still exists in more rural areas), while Mao's philoshopy (ironically) was the equalizer.

Whata funny thread this is HAHA!

Women easier to control = women are more responsible & dedicated than men (you can argue all you want on this but this thread proved my statement)

Women make better bosses in the work world because of that.

But men make better bosses for women at work.. is no secret

    Case close

Vin somehow I get the feeling you wife leads you around by the nose.

In my 62 years, my experience is that men who constantly belittle women, have some kind of complex (like they are henpecked).

Man is born of women. Your mother is the first person you bond with, and later that bond is broken -- in my case, when I was 15 years old. Sometimes this break comes a little earlier, sometimes a little later. Sometimes it never happens at all! Anyway, that's the first and last woman that controlled me! Most women, on the other hand, are seemingly quite content to let men control them their whole life -- probably looking for the father they never had!

This topic was the underlying theme of a great book for men called "Iron John". I suggest every man reads it, no matter what your age -- mothers that have sons too! In MANY cultures, this 'break with women' is the hallmark of a boy coming of age, e.g. becoming a man and controlling them.

My experience has been, it's the 'men' that have never broken this maternal bond that allow women to ride roughshod over them. Believe me on this one, Connie. No person controls me! Sometimes I can't even control myself...

I just think it's funny that the freedom, so called, that women have fought for and won, through long suffrage, is the same freedom that enslaves them. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for, because it might come true!

What a crock of S**t you spin.
About the only thing you said that is true is
Man is born of women. Your mother is the first person you bond with, and later that bond is broken
Women who have no spirit do not appeal to me at all (other than a one night stand).

If your a real man (secure with yourself) you are looking for a partner and not a dishrag that you can control.
