    forum notification emails lost

I've noticed that most notification emails never reach me, or they are never generated by the forum (even though i've subscribed to the thread).

I went to some old threads that i'm subscribed and almost all of them had replies that i was never notified about.

Can anyone else confirm this problem?

Oddly enough, I just opened a ticket because I'm not getting notifications sent to my JPC account from another vB forum. Last one I got from them was on the 25th and their admin is seeing lots of queued up messages from me. Lemme subscribe to this thread and see if I get anything.

Are you having the forum notifications sent to your JPC account?

This forums went for about a year without any notifications being sent. Then they did an upgrade and everything started working again. Maybe the bug the stopped them last time is at it again...

Locked myself out of these forums temporarily because I changed the email address to one hosted by JPC. Did not get the reverification email. Changed the address to my comcast address and got it immediately.

Bet it's related to this change if you had previously been getting the emails sehh.

i do get the verification emails... just rarely.

i've estimated that i get 1 out of 10 notification emails.

    i see two possibilities:

    1) The verification emails are generated and sent by the forum script but never reach me due to problems during delivery or my spamassassin deletes them (but i do get the occasional notification email... so i dont know if this makes sense).

    2) The verification email is never posted. The forum has a bug or some other restriction that prevents it from emailing everyone everytime.

Now that you mention it, I haven't been getting any forum notifications from here either. I was getting them fine a month or so ago.

I do not have spam assassin or any other spam filtering going on my domain.

I've looked at the notification emails that i do get and they never score anything above a -1 or a -2. So i have to rule out that they get deleted by SA.

Then its possible the forum sends a limited number of notifications each time or it has some other limitation (bandwidth reason?).

Only the admins can really tell us why we loose notification emails.

I am not sure, but there is a slight posibility that the following happens:

two or more subscribed threads get replies, the forum only sends a notification for ONE of them only.

here is what the notification email says:

"There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again."

thats why we loose notification emails, they are just never posted.

its probably a "feature" of vbulletin, since phpbb doesn't have that, it sends all notifications.

Hmmm, I think that Vb sends notifications of all threads, as does phpBB. I think that both will send you only the first notification for a particular thread, no matter how many replies are received in that thread, until you login again.

At least that how I think it works.

thats what i thought as well, but i believe vbulletin is different,

it sends a single notification for ALL threads.

OK, so I subscribed to this thread and another thread. Then I created a test account "TestSubscriptions" above using a different browser. I waited 15 minutes for my "Ron" session to time out. I then replied to both threads with the "TestSubscriptions" account/broswer.

    I got notifications from both.

hmm weird, now i didn't get any notification, not even for this thread.

unfortunately there isn't much that i can do, since the notifications that i do get look ok and score very low on spamassassin.
