yeah, because i first worked on the design, there is no content yet

    for bernardblack,

Sprinj helps friends plan and oraganize events/activities.

that's the main feature. as you can see, it is quite broad, i am looking for a nice way to present it.

About the name... no idea if it will work.

I read it with a little confusion wondering if it was a mispelling, foreign language, or exactly what it represented. Usually, when you read a "brandname" or business name, you can infer something about it. In your particular case, you cannot. In time you may develope innate branding because of your product. That will take some effort on your part to educate the market or audience, whatever it is.

Consider a trade name like "Yahoo!". By itself it means nothing and certainly does not connote a business concept. However, its usefulness garnered a following and became synonymous with search engine technology at an early age in the internet. The name, the business, and the consumer fed off of each other and the name Yahoo became valuable and meaningful.

I don't know if "sprinj" will experience the same phenomenon, so it's really just a question of whether or not your content catches on. If it does, then your name is terrific. If it doesn't, then it isn't. History will decide the "profitability" (however you want to define it) of it all... the rest is just personal taste.

Seems somehow obscene to me.... like a description of a fluid or a sound of some sort.

A domain name really means nothing except to people. If you go with a name like sprinj I think people will think of spring. If they do a search for your domain name they will probably search for spring.

How would you pronounce srpingj if you were talking to someone on the phone?

You want a name that is easy to remember and spell. Yahoo, Google, Amazon all meet those requirements, but the names have nothing to do with the service offered.

    .
ok. well, people would have a hard time on the phone, I guess, it is true about the search engine also. but the problem is Amazon, yahoo, amazon, they got their names before 2000 and they could choose. thats the difference between me and them. most recent websites, like digg.com, have all weird non-standard english names, digg won't pass on the phone either.

I wanted a short, easy to remember and to type name.

I thought that google too is not obvious to spell either. there are many ways to pronounce it, but you just need someone to tell you how to spell it properly.

anyway, thanks all for the feedback, i will be thinking about advertising this weekend and a potential new name too

It doesn't make any difference when you got the domain name. The potential problems are still there.

I agree that it is harder today to pick a short name than it was in the early years. The problems are still the same.

Think about it. What would come to your mind for spelling for Spring, and Sprinj?

A domain name should be easy to pronounce, and the spelling simple.

One exception that I can think of would be an actual company name (off-line existing business).

    Lightbulb

I have a name in mind that just jumped (sprung?) out at me after reading what Sprinj is... and the short name is available based on my preliminary whois research. PM me if you are interested. I, of course, get a small piece of the action if the project makes money.

Advice on picking a domain name....be patient. I have spent as much as 6 hours searching names for clients based on their business, brevity, and recall ability.

The process can be frustrating but ultimately rewarding when you encounter a 5 or 6 letter domain that says it all.

I am waiting on a dream name that may or may not become available in Oct. of this year. And I am considering placing an order just to get in on any potential auction should someone else be watching for the same domain. (the company is defunct).

Just for grins, I am sending you a name that will come available in Sept of this year. You may want to keep an eye on it. Check your pm.

So true. I have a domain waiting to be developed and the name is perfect. And it took a LOT longer than 6 hours to come up with it. I think it took several days of off and on brainstorming with the associated whois research to get there.

It was worth it. Others have offered to buy it, too, but I'm not selling.
