Windows XP Home and Incoming connections

Ok I have a problem I cant figure out, and it just recently started.

My Xp home Desktop is not allowing incomming connections from the Internet, Thinks like Web Servers, VNC's etc will not function on it, if I go through the Internet, With in my local Network they work fine however...

And Yes I have "incomming connections" enabled, and I have the Router set up properly, My other Desktop, running XP Pro, works just fine....

    Any Ideas?????

I probally need to Put pro on this one, but it came with Home (bought it as a Referb for a great price)

I would indeed start by pulling up a list of differences between home and pro on Microsoft's site. Many of them have to do with subtle limits on functioning in a networked environment.

So Internet Service requests external to your network but directed at refurb were operating properly initially and have recently failed, or have external accesses for Internet Service requests external to your network but directed at refurb always been "disabled"?

I've not worked with XP Home so specific advice from me will be quite limited, but Gwaihir's suggestion is a good one.

Is there any other 3rd-party software loaded onto the refurb that acts as a security component? A virus-scanning proxy? A firewall proxy? A socket block?

Noting your update, it appears you used to serve from that refurb (Apache, anyway). It's possible a MS AutoUpdate disabled something, but it seems a bit unlikely to me. How many patches were applied between your notice of serving and non-serving status? Have you reviewed your refurb PC OS logs to see which updates were applied? Have you reviewed MS's support site to see what each of those patches addressed?

If none of them ring a bell, then perhaps you disabled something (possibly via another piece of software) inadvertently.

Correct. well Apache was accessible, I never could get the VNC to work, but I thought it was something I was doing since I knew nothing about VNC's when I was playing with it, now I am thinking otherwise

None, I even shut them all down for a short time just to "test" that threoy and it still would not work,

it is not a Big deal, most of the stuff I want to access on the road are on the Pro computer anyway, but it is merely a file storage box right now, all my applications are on the Home Computer, I guess I will just simply it and install Pro on this computer as well, then I can use remote desktop, it is just a pain in the butt

Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned off.
