    http://www.google.com/codesearch

    Google is introducing a new search service -- strictly for computer programmers only.

    The Web search leader said late on Wednesday it is introducing Google Code Search, a site that simplifies how software developers search for programming code to improve existing software or create new programs.

    thievery filtered!

    Can't figure it out for yourself? Make every page open source!

    hehe... I wonder how long until this becomes a new way to Google for exploits?

    Google is going to get sued one day. Don't know if the party bringing the suit wins, but someone is going to view them as a deep-pocketed, big tobacco lottery.

    Its archiving robots (or another engine's for that matter) are going to traverse the wrong network and republish "private" data. The company/person that has this data released globally and suffers economically for the disclosure might have a very good case. Yes, some will say "well, the data was posted on a computer that wasn't properly secured from the engines, so it's not Google's fault." At some point someone will challenge that and win a judgement.

    Also:

    Google - big brother goes public.

    Those who decry government spying on citizens have been granted an invasive tool to do the very thing they would supposedly abhor. Consider the current searches on backgrounds of political candidates or those in the public eye. Heck, private one too. Without regard to ethics, people and their lives are "Googled", compiled, and redistributed for various motivations. In politics at its worst, it seems to be done for smear and defamation. This sleuthing will only get worse and Google will get sued as an ancillary party to a case. Just a matter of time. If one can sue a lawnmower manufacturer for getting injured while using the product as a hedgetrimmer, and win(!), one will sue Google for the abuse of its product as a utility for personal or business research done to harm the target.

    Interesting times. I wonder how many assets Google is secreting away for such eventualities?

    Heh! The bots certainly don't pay much attention to copyrights...

    http://www.google.com/codesearch?q=+...a=N&cd=1&ct=rm

    Although, I'll have to say, they seem to have stayed clear of anything that I published under GPL.

    That's odd, no?

    There is a copyright above "your name" and it is clearly GPL:
    Code:
    /************************************************************************/
    /* PHP-NUKE: Web Portal System                                          */
    /* ===========================                                          */
    /*                                                                      */
    /* Copyright (c) 2002 by Francisco Burzi                                */
    /* http://phpnuke.org                                                   */
    /*                                                                      */
    /* This program is free software. You can redistribute it and/or modify */
    /* it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by */
    /* the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License. */
    /************************************************************************/

    /* This is a hack by VinDSL (www.Lenon.com) for use with the
       Highlight image script by Dynamic Drive (www.dynamicdrive.com) */
    So I guess I don't understand your point.
