My ISP has domain name severs that suck big time. For a while I had my computer set to use the name servers from a local college, but a couple of months ago they set their DNS so it wouldn't be available to outside users. So I had to go back to the horrible name servers from my ISP.
Last week I discovered Open DNS (http://www.opendns.com/). It's totally free to use, and it is screaming fast for me. Probably the best name servers I've ever used on my computer. The only catch is, if you search for a unknown domain name, you'll get their error page (which has ads) instead of the usual browser error page.
(Ack! I meant to post this in the Net News and Tips forum)
