Well for the same reason other hosts and companies that dont even deal with hosting or the internet apply the same rules. We all have to keep growing or face death , just business. Specials are a means of attracting new potentials, the thinking is we already won over your business. Of course I agree this mentality sucks for loyal clients. Ive been thinking about a built in automated vetran reward system for a while. Keeping in mind we cant always just take off prices or discounts without running into problems finacially, what types of things would you like to see for your continued business....besides being backed with good solid service

this is really a good topic for a new thread.. so ill split it up

Question vetran rewards , giving back to those that make it possible

The topic here is a way to reward loyal clients that keep business with us time and time again. This would mean being loyal for years, not months. Not that we dont appreciate your business for a few months but we would like to keep you all around .

If a new special came out with most of these companies they'd say sure you can have the special if in fact you a) Pay Out your contract totally, disconnect and reconnect under the special negating and benefit from the % off for possibly a few years. b) If not on a contract Disconnect and Reconnect paying the new connection fee and possibly losing the extra channels/calls/bandwidth you have already to get the normal package at a reduced rate with less features.

Just a FYI for anyone ever dealing with Comcast. If you were on a special that just ended and you want to get a new special that they announced keep calling and eventually they will give it to you, it just depends on the rep you talk with. They released a new special for $19.95 for 6 months about a month after I got off another special, I kept calling each day to see if they could apply that special to my account and after 3 calls I got one that did it without any problems. I assume it was for the commission.

I might be a little confused about the point of this post, are you looking for some suggestions as to what we are looking for?

In that case let me see if I can provide my 2 cents.

Overall the biggest issue is keeping us happy by providing reliable service and support as well as keeping up with the times in regards to features and resources, and so far you have done this exceptionally well. Anything above this is an extra bonus that won't change wether or not I personally continue my hosting here. I don't stick with comcast internet for some silly gimmick, I do it because they provided good service while I have been with them.

With that said a couple cool, but again not critical things would be the following:

    • Maybe allow people that have been with you for a certain amount of time to enter in to a drawing each month to receive that month's hosting for free.
    • After a certain amount of years provide some kind of free upgrade to the hosting package you are on. IE an extra 10% of space or or bandwidth.
    • Or, simply give everone a free month of service after a certain amount of time has passed.

Some things I have though of in the past is possibly a "old customer server" such as being a customer for 3 years, grants you the priviledge to be able to move to the "old customer server" with way better specs than the normal services, and less customers on them.

The benefit of this is; customers wanting to stay a customer for longer, as they have the ability to be "pampered" on an excellent server.

there is ALWAYS a cheaper hosting company. Everyday a 16yo with daddy's new HSI internet connection decides to "start his own business" and give you unlimited bandwidth for $.01 /mo.....

    Great topic.

It's just a little frustrating to me to see big LIFETIME discounts being offered to attract newbies, and then when I go to upgrade my account to a new level finding out that the deal is for new clients only. Further it's kind of dismaying to note that they can bring their discount forward with them as they grow into new plans, or even multiple plans I suppose, since it seems to be associated with ACCOUNTS and not PLANS.

I understand completely and it makes sense not to allow current customers to just apply a promo discount to their current plan, it was just surprising when I found it applied to upgrading. Actually, truth be told, I did find it surprising that it was not applicable to current customers on their current plan, because nowhere in the ad does it say "for new clients only"

It is also equally frustrating when a client comes to the forums and calls JPC every name under the sun, and is rewarded with a month's credit (or whatever) while loyal, understanding customers, who either never complain or only whine a little after extended periods of troubles, and NEVER say a bad word about the company are not compensated.

What would I like? Hoo boy! That's a lot more difficult than just whining about not being able to take advantage of the special.

    Here are some thoughts...

A one-level upgrade free for X amount of time?

Some percentage of the monthly bill towards add-ons after 2 years, a little higher percentage after 3 (or 4) or whatever. Some sliding scale that starts to lock-in the long timers tighter and tighter, like Golden Handcuffs. Free IPs, a little extra RAM or Bandwidth or Disk, etc.

Discounts off of bigger-ticket add-ons, like backup service, managed services....

Again, all tied to longevity. You move, you lose'm.

    I'll think more on it.
    Good luck

Hey Ron, what about a "helpful Forum Member Discount" Ofcourse since my advice is gold I would never pay for hosting again but I digress

Ohh and I want to ad, I do think that upgrades probally should get the discounts.

If I were to upgrade from my Longhorn to a VPS I would expect the Discounts, and probally be here complaining if I did not get them.... Ofcourse i am not planning on getting a VPS any time soon so that point is mute anyway

The point may in fact be moot, but you weren't mute about it.

    Hey Jag,

Does it have to be lots of hard cash hauled in for years by ourselves directly, or does helping out at the forum count for something too?

As for the answer: one thing I can see is that you indeed can't stack discount on discount on discount over time, or your o so loyal customers would bankrupt you.
-> Perhaps you could open up those "lifetime discount" specials also for customers that have already been here for 2+ years or so? Those are after all prices you're prepared and able to offer services at, for a long time. I suppose a client at the end of his monthly / yearly contract during a special could already try to get a new contract, rather than extend the old one. (See that done with cell phone all the time.) You could indeed give him a brand new account for that (i.e. close old, open new), but isn't that just being nasty to oneanother? Even more so if the client is actually upgrading?

-> Another option are some really attractive but so far rather pricy upgrades. For VPS / dedicated / colo, backup space comes to mind. For shared a free IP for those that need it. (I have the feeling these two have an unusually high profit margin on them.)

-> What would I personally like? Well, at busier times (my account isn't moving much right now) I've been eyeballing the newer packages' diskspace.. I have zero justification to myself for forking over the extra $15 or so a year for it (it would be filled with the most insignificant of hobby stuff), but well, if it were donated as a free upgrade.. A more complex wish would be an SVN server.
    Regards,

What I want is for you to continue a service above others, make sure things run as smoothly as possible and not much more.
I don't stay here because of any incentive (much like I don't send people here for the incentive) I stay because you are the best I have found, you have everything I want and I have for the most part been very happy.

Anything above what I get now is nice but not actually needed.

Well, possible the only thing I want is you keep any new people off the server I am on because its pretty stable.

If you wanna give something back to us old timers then look at what will cost you the least over the long term and go with that.

    Thumbs up On a Roll!

Hi folks - been a while since I last posted (busy in the classroom) but noticed that this thread was timely with my situation. I don't think I'm in the vetran or old timer category but believe I can now count myself as a loyal customer. As of yesterday I completed my first two years of hosting at JaguarPC. I started Jan 23/05 with the shared hosting GigaDeal and now I'm renewed for another two years in the "same" plan.

When I said "same" plan, it was meant more as a positive, while recognizing that there was a difference. The original plan was 1GB web space and 45GB transfer; now my plan is automatically upgraded to 17GB and 210GB - same price as when I started! How can you beat that!?!

Like others who have posted in this thread, I'm of the opinion that the excellent service offered here at JaguarPC is a great reward to loyal customers. The deal I got on renewing was an unexpected fine "gravy" on an already excellent "roast beef".

I would like to suggest that the regular contributors to this forum get extra recognition. From my point of view, the regular contributors on this forum have provided lots of great assistance to other forum members/JaguarPC customers. I also wish to take this opportunity to thank the regular contributors for their helpful posts!

And finally - many thanks to Jag and the entire JaguarPC crew for a great 2 years of hosting!

I would be very cautious suggesting that regular contributers to the forum gets recognition. Would really hate to see the level of usefulness drop just because someone finds out that you get rewarded for posting.

Other than that I have seen some good suggestions coming to the table.
