    Server Move

    Maintenance Notice

    ============================

    Dear [ME],

    We are contacting you to inform you about some upcoming scheduled maintenance.

    We at JaguarPC are working hard to increase the level of performance for our clients and their webhosting services. We are upgrading the hardware on which at least one of our servers were your shared hosting account resides. Also, we are moving your account to our new, faster, better performing network. Obviously, this is a two fold approach to better performance for your shared hosting account. As with all technology, since your account was placed on its current server newer and faster hard disks and CPU's have become available and the input/output (IO) speeds can be improved greatly with the new hardware we have ready for you. This means your data gets out to your visitors faster. Also we, along with customers already on the new network, have noted significantly higher network/traffic response times compared to the older network.

    There is one caveat with the move to the new network as we will not be able to move your IP addresses along with the shared hosting account. You will be assigned new IP addresses once the move is complete. We can assist with this with IP address forwarding for http traffic and SMTP (port 80 & 25) to mitigate DNS propagation lag.

    We will handle the migration of your user data so you should not have to do anything on your end.

    Of course we encourage you to maintain local backups of your websites at all times. After the migration if you note any problems with your site we want you to update us immediately to ensure we are aware so our technicians can address problems. The URL to submit trouble tickets is located here (https://secure.jaguarpc.com/clients).

    We understand the IP change is troublesome and we look forward to helping you out in making the move as painless as possible. We will also inform you the scheduled time for the move before the ip change. Please remember we are doing this for the overall betterment of services and the improved performance of your shared hosting account.

    Your new shared server hostname will be geonosis.nocdirect.com.
    ============================

    Two questions about this. Is there any way to opt out of this "upgrade?" It's been my experience with having other accounts here and with other users that newer servers have bugs to work out in the beginning. Moving off of good 'ol reliable Falcon isn't an appealing thought.

    I have a unique IP, so does this IP change affect me? And, if so, will I still have a unique IP, just a different one?

    I only have one account but I don't wanna go from my server.
    I may not be able to send information at lighting speeds but I would prefer something a little slower and stable.

    If your on titanium that move is going to take place tonight around 10 PM CST. There is nothing you can do about it. I have argued with support about this over the last couple of months.

    What Jag perceives as improved benefits, I do not. I guess that is life.

    that is fine, if jag (the company and employee;s of the comanpy) have zero respect for the users cna customers, I know 1,000,000,000 other hosting companies that might, I can go back to my company hopping until I find a new home

    I hope however some of Jags new employees or Greg himself will see this and address this issues.

    I wonder what you REALLY have against Atlanta, so much so that the seeimingly insignificant fact that the bits of data of your site being housed and distributed from there has you in such an uproar.

    Is it merely a question of taking a moral stand against a city you hate, or is there a "Rest of the Story?"
    Good luck

    Just start acquiring your archive of past issues and be ready to send 'em in... one at a time. I'm ready to submit for DNS updating, SSL cert reinstalls, SPF reentry, and some 3rd party binaries since those seem to be regular issues with a move. Remember to report each one individually so issues are not conflated. It might seem wasteful, but it will keep issues and their remedy isolated.

    Not really looking forward to this despite announced performance improvements. Stability trumps performance unless the performance is an order of magnitude better. I doubt, but I'm hopeful, that's the case.

    I'm not sure the move in regard to titanium users has anything to do with Atlanta or Houston. I have no idea where the new server Olympia is going to be located. I would like to know the location, but a change of location is not my reason for objecting to a change.

    I am opposed to being moved off a machine that has been stable for years, to a new machine.

    I'm old, senile, hardheaded, and set in my ways. I really don't like change.

    We're actually looking to move some of our equipment and have some outstanding issues solved. At the moment we are having some issues with having servers in both locations, these issues will be solved with better performance and less chance of outages. All in all in 2006 we had as many problems in our Houston DC as we had in Atlanta DC. We've found in General Atlanta performs better and we'll be able to increase speed and reliability for all. More bandwidth pooled for everyone means a speed increase across all servers as. In fact in 2006 the Houston DC was subjected to repeated DDOS attacks during 2006 where these types of attacks were rare and quickly alerted to and solved in the Atlanta DC. I'm sure Greg will have comments to make on the subject however this is honestly how i see it at the moment, we are making big changes to benefit all and certainly wouldn't jeopardize our clients accounts and for that matter our own by choosing a less than optimal solution.

    Interesting you mention SSL cert issues. I have had a problem in regard to this for the last 4 days. Nothing has been resolved. My shopping cart has been down for this length of time due to the SSL cert issues. Now tonight The server change. I wonder how many more days it will take to get the SSL issues resolved after this move?

    Yea I'm a little frustrated right now. This forced move only compounds the frustration.

    But hey, a year from now all my frustration will be forgotten. In spite of all

    Well, I'm not going to run away because my server is changed and I would be happy to actually change servers but I know that as soon as the server can handle more that more users will be put on the machine and of course its going to be new users and we are going to become unstable

    I don't care where in the country the server is located (heck I'm in australia, its not like a couple of hundred or thousand Ks is gonna make a difference to me)

    Yeah, I don't care if my new server is in Atlanta, I just really don't want to move from a proven stable server that has served me so well for years. It's a simple fact that new servers are buggy for a while. I have no doubt that the bugs will be worked out in a few months, but until then I'll be in for downtime, sql problems, slowness, etc. Again, no doubt at all that Jag will work the kinks out ASAP, it's just a pain in the @$$ waiting on that process and obviously not something I (or, apparently, anyone else) want to go through.

    You're just being coy, right?

    Texas, until Katrina, was kinda devoid of those kinda ppl...

    Atlanta, on the other hand, is filled with them!
