    new widget - site checker

    Name: Site Status Widget

    Download From Jag: http://www.jaguarpc.com/userbin/

    Author: the_ancient

    Download at Authors site: http://www.theancient.us/jpcwidget/

This widget will give you a nice green icon display as long as it returns a positive result for your url. you can set it to check any url you like, we recommend your own site. If the check fails it will turn red and activate a voice message stating the site is inaccesible using the default voice you have selected for your system (if enabled).

I have Made some Changes to the Status Widget. they are

    Code:
Removed "speak" function, Some Users found it annoying, namly ME :)
Added in Ping Test, with Response time Text.
Reduced Widget Size from 100px to 75px
    Removed News Window.
defaults to jaguarpc.com instead of google.com
NOTE: when configuring to your sites URL, DO NOT put in http://www. just put in the base host name i.e jaguarpc.com. putting in anything else will break it right now.
This will be changed in the next version, however.

I am still working on making it robust. I am working on embeding a database in to the widget that will store status data including traceRT info.....

You can get the new version here

How are you opening it? I cant remeber how I packaged it....

however at this point it is irrlevent, you should not be seeing the .kon file.

the package .widget is executable by the Yahoo Widget engine, which you must not have installed. You need to install the Engine first http://widgets.yahoo.com and then just double click on the .widget package

I'm interesting in the site status widget. Not anything from Yahoo.

I download the ZIP file from the author since the Jaguar link didn't work. Extracts and gives me what I said before.

    RG1,

The widget that the_ancient has published requires the Yahoo! widget engine to run it. The Yahoo! Widget Engine is a program that runs in the background on your computer and lets you run the JPC widgets as well as widgets from many other sources.

WHAT yahoo widget? I don't want weather or any of that junk. Want a simple Jaguar connect. Not all the other stuff. Am I missing something?

The widget REQUIRES the Yahoo! Widget engine. It's like requiring DirectX, you don't have to notice it all the time, but the libraries it provides are essential to the program actually running.

Some other analogies: you need Microsoft Office to open a .doc, you need a web browser to open .html, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open .pdf, you need Flash Player to open .swf

As the others have stated, you have to download the package from Yahoo, you DO NOT have to run their widgets,

the Yahoo Widget engine is Basically a Javascript Runtime API for Windows that allows the developer to make windows applications using Javascript, which without the engine is not possible

Further I have no "zip" files, the old way widget were packaged, and the way I still use on some widget because it make for a small package size, is to use a "zip" algorithm to package it in to a single "widget" file, this file should not be extracted at all.

On a side not, this is the first time I am even talking about it and I hope jag will not get upset because he has not even been told of it, I am looking at making a Actual Windows Tray App that will be more robust than the Widget, I have been trying to make the Widget more robust but the limitations of javascript are stopping me unless I use some kind of erver Side code which really defeats the purpose
