    Going Back in Time

I was looking at another site today in the way back machine, and decided to take a look at JaguarPC from Dec 2000.

Compare that to what you get today.

I started off with the 50 mb plan at $9.95 per month. Last year I finally decided to start paying annually. I think my annual fee is $7.00 (something per month). I'm paying less than when I signed up with Jag but getting a lot more.

Jag has dropped the dedicated IP as part of their plans, but you can still get one for a reasonable fee. For those of us who were fortunate enough to sign up before it was dropped, those dedicated IPs were grandfathered.

I remember one of the changes that took place in those early years. I think it had something to do with a change in the CP. I got an email that said I had so many days to upload my site to a new server. Today Jag does all that when needed. Today they will help you in some cases move files from another host to Jag.

Two things I miss about the old Jag though I understand the reasons for the changes.

I used to e-mail support whenever I had a problem. Today you have to file a support ticket.
When I got frustrated in regard to support, I picked up the phone and called support.

I wonder how many here remember those days.

Greg I think it would be interesting if you had some kind of history page in regard to JaguarPC.

You should have seen their site when I first signed up in 99, I think I still have my welcome email somewhere. I'll see if I can dig that up. The site was all gray and had very little graphics.

I remember phone support for a while but never really had to use it, would be a nice feature to get back some time.

Those were the good old days, placing a banner on your site would get you upwards of $10 CPM on a medium traffic site. I miss those times.

I remember the gray site. I was surprised it did not show up on the wayback search.

I also remember getting e-mails about the start of a forum. I remember thinking what good is a forum? I don't have time for that.

6 years or so latter, I'm a forum addict.

I don't think I was around for phone support, but I remember emailing (and occasionally ICQing) Jag and Tim Greer (remember him?) for support. One time, during a datacenter transition JPC was hosting the old ticket system at jaguarpc.net, which was in one datacenter, but the main jaguarpc.com site was on a different server in the new datacenter. So somehow the jaguarpc.com site blocked my IP for some unknown reason so I opened a ticket about it. Then one Saturday morning, while the ticket was still open, Greg and Tim migrated the ticket system to the server I was locked out of, so I lost access. Luckily a couple emails later and everything was resolved.

I also remember when Jag worked on tickets. Pretty much any ticket I opened was worked on by Jag, Tim, or later on Masood.

Are you kidding me? I was a kid with a pocket full of money thanks to the ad rates that were out there during that time. Now you get around 10 cents every 1,000 views so I dropped the whole CPM advertising scheme a long time ago.

I don't use CPM programs anymore, only CPA. Actually advertising wise lately it hasn't been great at all, which is why I am currently forced to work on other projects .

I'm averaging $2.44 per thousand views, with a CTR of 4.7%
