Question How big are Jags BALLS?

While most of you will take this as a not so serious thread I mean for it to be completely serious, ok MOSTLY serious... I have to be me! =)

I've recently started to advertise several websites I have hosted here at jag and some contain controversial stuff. NO, not that you PERV! =P

So while I’m always worried about the errant script kiddie I’ve also received some bad publicity recently that was the result of a personal argument completely outside the web and while its entirely unlikely that it would spill over to my web presence I am looking for some reassurance that Jag won’t shatter and start licking the first attorney that sends a cease and desist order over and that I’ll at least have some decent warning if Jag feels anything is amiss so I can move without disrupting ANY of my clients.

    I await your counsel.

Anyway, That's not the (ahem) site that's gonna get you in trouble, is it? It's that canoe one you're worried about... right?

Now I don't personally see a reason for the site to receive such an order, but I'm sure we wouldn't just shut it down instantly. I do believe this is more of a question for ben or greg though.

    Hello olokiop,
We Certainly wouldn't be shutting down a site unless officially ordered to do so by a law enforecement agency. Of course we do have to comply with laws but i don't really see it coming to this with your sites.

Neither of your sites seems like any big deal to me. I say worse stuff every day on my site and Jag hasn't booted me yet. I think you're pretty safe

I understand compliance with laws, I'm worried about lawyers. Since it's their job to lie and cheat and steal in any way they can get away with does Jag have a way to research if a complaint is valid BEFORE it acts on any legal notice recieved?

For instance, if Jag recieves a DMCA complaint about a site, would they shut the site down then worry(or care) about what was wrong or would they actualy understand that the enemy lawyer would say anything they wanted to get what they were paid money for done wether it was in compliance with the law or not.

I'm worried about abuses of the law which are becoming much more prelevent than ANY real use for the document.

I don't think you have a thing to worry about. I've been threatened with lawsuits twice in the last year for comments I made on spam whackers. I tell them to go for it.

In regard to a cease and desist, unless someone has a lawyer buddy that will write it for nothing, they are going to have to spend some money just to get the lawyer involved. If you don't comply their going to have to spend money to go to court, or drop it.

I dont think a cease and decist means a lot until it comes from a court order.

As Jim says: a cease and decist is NOT an official order from a law enforcement agency. That would generally be a court order only.

Thanks for clarifying that, Ben. It's good to know our sites can't mysteriously dissapear from under our hands should any of us run into some trouble. Sadly, too many providers would do as olokiop fears, quite unrightfully giving their customer two problems instead of just one.
