JetBlue is a perfect example of what you're saying...

    Articles

Basically, they've run out of pilots... as silly as that seems!

They offered low budget oversold airfares. Everything was okay, for a while, but they grew too big, too fast... and BOOM! The whole thing came crashing down like a house of cards.

The same thing could easily happen here (or elsewhere)...

Oh gawd it's nothing the same.

I haven't read a single article on Jet Blue, just heard that they are still cancelling 25% of their flights today, but I can tell you exactly what the problem is. The were running at full capacity at the peak travel time (trips to Florida) with no fat and no spares. After the weather hit, their planes and crew are now all "out of position" they have no way of accommodating their regular flights, nevermind their stranded passengers at the same time.

So they've opted to do the only thing they can which is to take care of the stranded people and crews out of position and reboot. Just like Windows.

This is one of the outcomes of deregulation. not saying I'm against deregulation in general, but sometimes somethings need to be regulated, airline travel one of them because it is not an unregulated industry, with rules about how much time pilots can fly, and the air traffic control system run by the government and so forth. There's a balancing act that needs to be met.

The low cost airlines are eating the old airlines' lunch because they are coming in bare bones and doing things without regard for the consequences of failure, those protections previously built into the old airlines' fares and historical costs (pensions and health care for all the mandated excess crews that are now retired).
    Good luck

    LoL!

And, you don't *think* that could happen here -- if JagPC grew too big, too fast?

How would they get "out of position" or anything analgaous?

See, that's the part that's missing. Sure, they could grow and have no spares and have a rack be hit by lightning, or a DC under water, but that could happen to any host at any time and then you have a disaster recovery plan.

An ice storm is a "predictable" thing in that you know it is going to happen every winter, or close to it, and sometimes it is going to be at a peak travel time. It's not like 10% of their planes were hit by hail or lightning and put out of commission.

So how would JAG get his services mucked up so his customers were unable to carry on in business, due to a single predicatable event?

I can think of one thing that might do it, come to think of it.
    Good luck
