After reading posts from clients about down time I had to post this.
Just some definitions from the "Michael's World Dictionary"
Down
1. Not working, either correctly of completely. "Down" does not mean the server is on fire.
Fast
1. Opposite of slow. Relative term that should ONLY be used in comparison.
Such as, "Responce time will be fast. It will not take 3 days.".
Reasonable
1. Also a relative term. Usually has basis on typical behaviour. This means support asking clients "To wait a reasonable amount of time before resubmitting a ticket" would result in a dozen submissions separated by 60 second intervals.
2. To clients "Reasonable" would be 60 seconds.
Server Move
1. A period of time where your server runs either slow or not at all.
Usually accompanied by such browser displays as
"Uh? I thought it was here."
"I almost caught it that time."
"Its in the mail."
"The police are currently making a chalk outline of it."
2. A period of time when every client suddenly decides their server is the foundation on which their lives are based and they have missed every notice of the move for 3 months.
Hope it helps,
Michael
