    Red face 3 oclock brick wall

    So its almost 3pm and I had my lunch about an hour ago - and i'm definately feeling the urge to pass out.

    What do you do to get through the last couple of hours of the day - when all you really want to do is nap?

    Get a better night's sleep?

    Own your own business and set your own hours?

    Don't drink coffee, you're probably experiencing a caffeine crash.

    Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to have another cup of coffee and then take a nap.

    Seriously though, I used to drink a TON of coffee, and giving it up was very difficult. It took about a month to get to the point where I didn't feel like I was dragging around all the time, but then I had a high level of energy all the time with no afternoon crash at all.

    I fell off the wagon a while ago, though, and I am back drinking coffee in the AM, and the amount is increasing from a single cup to 2, to 3 now...

    (At one point I was drinking about 10 12oz cups a day.... )
    Good luck

    wow thats a lot of coffee. I've never started the coffee habit - and since I never started - coffee tastes yucky to me
    Tea I like.
    As for sleep - well I'm a couple of days shy of being 32 weeks pregnant - so the sleep thing is hit or miss

    Woo Hoo! 32 weeks pregnant! Congratulations!!!!!!

    Soon we will have a little JPC-CeciliaJR attacking the ticket queue! So while you're configuring this new little server, will you be using WHM to manage things, or will you just be using the CLI?

    Do you have off hours support arranged for lil' JR's cron jobs? You have to set up recurring feeds and of course manage those unexpected dumps that happen in the middle of the production day. I know you wouldn't forget to have backups, so you're having twins, right?
    Good luck

    I'll use WHM thank you very much. I'm not advanced enough to go CLI. As for the rest..

    WHM=Wish Hard Mom
    and
    CLI=Cute Little Infant ?

    I know I'm being nosey, but was this planned down time or just one too many fscks....?
    After a while you'll feel like you're losing your grep on reality, and and when something is wrong causing alarm the little man may not ping you, you'll have to poll, but I'm sure you'll sort it all out, given enough time. WikiPeeingYa may be helpful.

    When is the due date?
    Good luck

    Sorry to hear that.
    Maybe if you googled it, you could get a megabite.
    Good luck

    Wow Ron. I've never seen some many double-entendre puns in one paragraph before.

    Working on a nice big, suburban, walkable college campus, I try to get out for a walk during my lunch break. On days when I do I usually don't get the afternoon crash. Of course, between my schedule and the weather that isn't always possible, but I try my best to get out when I can. Now that we are entering "construction" season (we joke that we have two seasons around here: winter and construction) it is much easier to work up the motivation to do it.

    @Ron: Wow, I'm still laughing.

    Have a snack at 4 p.m., something that gives energy quickly like fruit (preferred) or a candybar. Do step away from your desk for a moment for that.

    I also tend to take on the more complex tasks early in the day and take on some simpler things late in the afternoon.

    When I really feel like napping it takes extra coffee to keep going. Fortunately that's not every day, as I do like to not go overboard on the stuff. Big mugs are something to watch out for there; it takes some discipline NOT to fill them all the way every time, but it sure pays of for me.

    BTW in my torrent of puns, I neglected to remind you that REGULAR TEA contains lots of caffeine, some more than others, like green tea. There are decaf teas available, as well as non-caffeine herbal teas.

    Enjoy!
    Good luck

    hahaha what a thread to walk into.

    I find when I wanna sleep the best thing for me is to get up and do physical stuff, anything at all, like I go too the store or something.

    Keeps me awake during that time and them I'm fine for the rest of the day

    Indeed, more so than coke, that other drink associated with caffeine, but it doesn't come close to coffee.

    Some numbers (per drink), caffeine content:
    • Coffee (8 oz) 135 mg
    • Tea, regular (8 oz) 50 mg
    • Coke, regular (12 oz) 34 mg
    • Tea, green (8 oz) 15 mg
