I have sites that need to be able to host chatrooms.
The ones that JaguarPC allows are only server push or pull and they are absolutely useless.
We need to be able to have access to real cgi chat.
This is a discussion on Come on, we need access to a real chatroom program in the Open Discussion & Chit-chat forum

Most chats are too resource intensive to be given to 200+ users on a server. The ones provided haven't caused any problems so far but if you have one in mind you want us to look at let us know. If you have a lot of chat users though I dont think your going to be able to run it on a regular shared account.

Hi,
Have you ever considered IRC? You can make a link on your page and use your own specific channels for your users, family or clients. IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It has been around since the begining of the Internet (maybe not the beginning but for many years before AOL and the web itself)
As the reply above, If you are looking to make a Chat specific site, It may be more than what the shared Jaguar Servers could handle. You can probably co-locate something but if you are thinking Yahoo or AOL type of quality you may not find that out there no matter who you use. Then again Yahoo and AOL both allow you to create private rooms. Maybe a link that tells people what room you are in or something along those line?

I would love to be able to use IRC but Jaguar doesnt allow it.
Just register a room on Dalnet or cyuberarmy :P then your good, and don't need your on IRC server.
Maybe Im not being clear.
JaguarPC does not allow web based IRC clients.
This means if I want to use an IRC chat I have to tell people
to go download Mirc then to log into a certain server then to go to my room.
Not going to work.
This is why we need to have a limited access chatroom. Either IRC for something else. These chat scripts that use page refreshing are useless.

Doesn't Java still only allow server access from and applet, or is that different in newer browsers. Last I knew, apllets could only talk to the originating server, even if they were signed and stuff.
If you get a room on dalnet or what ever you can place a chat applet which has been writen in java on a page on your site. the actual java applet will be loaded from a different server and all that
I think we should have an IRC server installed either way so that we can have individually branded chat rooms.. with customers being the mods that run there specific room!
All opinions are the result of being uninformed, unintelligent and uninterested!
I thought that IRC stuff wasn't allowed or something? I would like a IRC room thingy.... ^_^ I don't know what I would use it for... but it's something more... ^_^v
If you see me posting, there must be bad news. ^^
